Hiring Salary Range: $32076-48114

Pay Grade: 63, Non-exempt

Work Schedule/Requirements: Generally Monday-Friday 8am-5pm with On-Call Rotation. Occasional evening and weekend work is required.

Primary job function and duties:

This is a paraprofessional position providing foreign language interpreting services in human services agency. Employees in this position ensure that all services, communication, documentation, etc. provided by the program are provided in the client’s native language as mandated by law, program guidelines, or needs. Work involves providing verbal interpretation of all information shared between staff and clients. Work of an interpreter involves translating all written materials and providing clients with written documentation. Performs other duties as required.

Supervised by: HSA Administrative Officer or Assistant Director (depending on unit assignment).

Minimum Qualifications:

- High School Diploma or GED

- One year of experience in human services.

- Bilingual

- Interpreting skills

- Valid driver’s license

- Able to maintain accurate records and generate reports.

- Knowledge of the ethics of interpreting; the program area, regulations, policies, procedures, etc. assigned.

- Ability to: interpret/translate all verbal information and written materials in English and the foreign language; assess communication skill level of client and exercise judgement in determining applicable programs; understand and interpret information in the various dialects of that language

- Physical Requirements: able to sit for extended periods of time, viewing a computer monitor/using a keyboard and mouse, walking, standing, bending, stooping, and lifting up to 10 pounds on a regular basis (occasionally moving larger items that may weigh up to 25 lbs.). This work primarily takes place in the clinic/agency setting, but may also take place in the home environment or out in the community.

Preferred Qualifications:

Administrative duties, general office/clinic experience, medical billing, etc.

Special Notes Concerning This Position:

- -A background check, drug screen and motor vehicle report will be required prior to hire.

- Although based in the Human Services Agency, this position may assist with a variety of divisions and programs within the County.

- The duties of this position may also include assistance with sheltering operations and working medical counter measure events during natural disasters and public health emergencies.

- This position may have limited Administrative Duties; ex. Clinic Billing, Estate Recovery, General Front Window Duties/Coverage

- ICS Trainings (100, 200, 700 and 800) must be completed within 90 days.
