The Food Services Instructor will provide instruction for students wanting to learn more professional cooking skills.Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent is required; associate's degree from a regionally accredited institution or equivalent in the food service field is preferred Candidate should have credentials, education or work experience in food services Job or work experience(s) in a related vocational and/or life skills subject area is preferred Ability to operate and move heavy equipment while demonstrating safety in usage Ability to teach or demonstrate course work or job experiences associated with the Food Services/Quantity Food Services program Candidate must also be able to develop lesson plans/course syllabus, maintain attendance, time sheets, and rosters; and create daily assignments for students Experience in teaching small groups is preferred, but not required Candidate should possess effective English communication skills, both written and oral, and be able to relate to and communicate well with individuals from all socio-economic levels and ethnic groups Candidate must be willing to work in a correctional institution in direct contact with incarcerated individuals Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision Applicant must complete the NC Department of Public Safety background check form. Please contact the Greene County Center Correctional Programs Coordinator at 252-747-3434, for additional information Working Conditions Must be willing to work in a correctional institution with inmates and staff Frequent standing and walking to monitor student progress Some light lifting of materials pertaining to lab projectsEssential Functions and Responsibilities Correctional Instructors, within the Continuing Education Department, are expected to demonstrate and maintain competence in each of the following areas throughout their employment at the College: Mastery of Subject Matter Demonstrate a thorough and accurate knowledge of their field or discipline Display an ability to interpret and evaluate the theories of their field or discipline Connect the subject matter with related fields Stay current in the subject matter through professional development; through course work; internet; involvement in professional organizations; and attending professional meetings, conferences, or workshops Use resources available to enhance teaching and the educational experience when appropriate Teaching Performance Plan and organize instruction in ways that maximize student learning; this includes lesson plans and activities for each class meeting Lecture and demonstrate appropriate teaching and learning strategies to communicate subject matter to students Modify, where appropriate, instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse student needs Encourage the development of communication skills and higher-order thinking skills through appropriate assignments Contribute to the selection and development of instructional materials in accordance with course objectives Maintain accurate student rosters and attendance Evaluation of Student Learning Establish and follow meaningful learning objectives Develop and explain methods that fairly measure student progress toward course objectives Evaluate student performance fairly and consistently and return student work promptly to promote maximum learning Maintain accurate records of student progress and submit final grade rosters to division administrator and correctional programs supervisor each semester according to established deadlines Ensure that time is spent productively by students working on appropriate assignments Evaluate students and provide them specific feedback Assist in maintaining a clean lab and clean equipment Provide adequate safety measures for students and security measures to ensure safety of laboratory equipmentNotice of Nondiscrimination Lenoir Community College is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
