FIELD MECHANIC
Independence Excavating is looking for a self-motivated and knowledgeable Field Mechanic to join our team in Mahwah NJ. As the field mechanic, you will be responsible for diagnosing, rebuilding, and repairing vehicles and site equipment and inspecting idle machines at our field locations. This position does require travel monthly for half of the year and will require you to work in all-weather elements.

A typical day looks like:
- Under limited supervision performs work of considerable difficulty in the repair and maintenance of vehicles and equipment; performs related work as assigned
- Going thru the equipment, checking fluids, making sure the units are ready to be productive all day
- Repairing, building and/or maintenance equipment
- Ability to switch gears with short notice, leaving one project to start another more critical
- Performing inspections and preventive maintenance of vehicles and equipment
- Preparing and maintaining records and reports
- May act as lead person in supervisor’s absence
Do you have what it takes?
- Within the last 10 years, five years of experience and/or training in vehicle/construction equipment repair and maintenance shop or any combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position
- Class B CDL, preferred
- Diagnosing mechanical problems and performing repairs
- Operation of vehicles and equipment for diagnostic purposes
- Safety practices and procedures
- Electrical systems, including computerized induction/ignition systems
- Strong troubleshooting knowledge in hydraulic systems
- Use of diagnostic equipment
- Acetylene and electric arc welding
- Effectively handle lifting of various objects weighing up to 60 pounds
- Work extended hours out of doors in a variety of weather conditions
- Communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- Occasional overtime may be necessary during peak times
