Job description
Organization
Two Rivers Public Charter School is an Expeditionary Learning (EL) charter network that serves approximately 1000 students in preschool through eighth grade across three schools in Washington, DC. Two Rivers was founded in 2004 by more than three dozen parents from the Capitol Hill neighborhood with a mission to nurture a diverse group of students to become lifelong, active participants in their own education, develop a sense of self and community, and become responsible and compassionate members of society.
When students graduate from Two Rivers, they will have the cognitive and social skills to succeed in high school and college so that they are positioned to have rich and varied options for their future. The team at Two Rivers implements the interactive, hands-on, project-based learning EL model that uses expeditions to create an exciting educational environment in which students and staff become learners on a journey of discovery.
Each of the 175+ staff members at Two Rivers strongly believes all children can learn and be high achievers, and the rigorous and standards-based curriculum provides opportunities for students to excel. In addition to the core academic program, Two Rivers offers students integrated arts, content-based Spanish programs, and at least 22 real-world expeditions.
The entire Two Rivers community is guided by their motto: “We are crew, not passengers”. The Two Rivers approach focuses on the whole child, recognizing the importance of character education and the social-emotional needs of children. Students reflect on and evaluate themselves on 5 scholarly habits:
- I am independent and resilient.
- I can connect and collaborate.
- I know myself.
- I act with integrity.
- I show compassion and embrace diversity.
Two Rivers has a reputation as one of the top charter school networks in DC and has achieved DC Public Charter School Board’s highest rating 9 years in a row. To learn more please visit https://www.tworiverspcs.org/.
