**This is a seasonal appointment anticipated to last from January - June. This full time position will work Monday - Friday, but may require work after hours or weekends for events, protests, or rallies.**
What you will be doing:
The Capitol Security and Visitor Services Division is hiring a new seasonal Events Coordinator 1. In this role, you will provide general administrative and operational support to ensure smooth daily function and help facilitate activities for the Capitol Campus Public Space and Visitor Services Program for the period of January through June. You will split work time between the office environment performing related administrative duties such as supporting our Tour Program and, in the field, serving as a point of contact during events. You will help with all aspects of planning, coordination, and execution of both scheduled and unscheduled events. You will collaborate and interact with numerous government and agency officials and will ensure the smooth operation of service delivery to campus users, which includes over 500,000 users a year, over 600 events per year, and 80,000 visitors on public tours!

As the ideal candidate, you are strongly familiar with direct oversight and management of diverse, recreational, and cultural events, especially those that include the need for safety and security. You also possess excellent interpersonal, analytical, organizational, time management, outreach, and customer service skills.

Some of what you will enjoy doing:
- Managing and coordinating a wide variety of capitol campus events.
- Supporting on-site event staff.
- Managing all logistical aspects of events, including running of event, site maps, set-up/tear-down and staff coverage.
- Communicating and coordinating with internal departments, programs, external agencies and/or contractors as needed.
- Providing Front of the House management for events to include event staff/volunteer supervision, vendor management, alcohol management and conflict resolution.
- Gathering feedback and providing post-event evaluations and follow up, including financial assessment of each event.
- Using various computer applications and programs to create and maintain event records and files.
- Supporting and performing operational duties during civic education tours such as: school lunches-arrivals/seating, transporting lunch carts, recycling, assisting students with lunch/restrooms. Providing tour support as needed.
- Supporting our Civic Education tours.
- Verifying tour plans, checking for conflicts and accuracy.
- Backing up tour guides for public and civic tours.
- Providing room set-up/tear down for mock court hearings.
- Performing daily AM tasks from opening tour desk, checking guest book, emptying customer comments box, posting schedules, turning on reception room lights, pulling jackets, turning on lights, stocking credenza, etc.
- Providing coverage and communication for Legislative Building public area security during free-speech and second amendment events.
- Assisting security needs with the WSP and Legislative building tenants during campus related events and activities.
- Engaging directly with campus visitors to communicate rules and policies concerning proper use of the Capitol Campus.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED; AND
- Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in the Events or Hospitality industry, to include operational and special events experience; AND
- A valid driver license.
- Demonstrated creativity and resourcefulness in presentation, promotion, and sales is preferred (or an equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities).
- Must be computer literate; Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel preferred.
- The physical ability to occasionally lift/carry materials or objects weighing up to 30 pounds.
- Ability to work in varying environments (office, outdoors, protests/counter-protests).
- Ability to deploy safety equipment (crowd fencing, vehicle barriers, etc.) when necessary to support campus operations.
- Ability to drive one-ton truck and trailer when necessary to support campus operations.

Preferred Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Associates Degree in Communications, Business, Recreation, or Criminal Justice.
- Excellent interpersonal, analytical, organizational, time management, outreach, and customer service skills.
- Meticulous knowledge of event planning and attention to detail.
- Possession of a related event planning certification.
