Estimator

SUMMARY OF POSITION
You will be responsible for producing accurate and timely bids for the company. Ensure the sales department will be able to present and win an above average percentage of the jobs it proposes. You will be responsible for staying competitive with product, supply, and sub-contractor prices as well as Munie’s operating production capabilities to ensure accurate estimates. You will negotiate pricing with vendors, sub-contractors, performs site assessments, and makes decisions on how to adjust price based upon circumstances of site or project.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure all work is being performed in adherence with safety policies and procedures, placing safety of self and employees above everything else
  • Needs to compile a turnover packet including all material quotes, drawings, estimate forms, etc. and lead a post-bid meeting with Construction Manager/ Project Manager to discuss how the estimate was compiled so that it can be built the way it was bid
  • Produce all estimates, contracts, or change orders accurately and in a timely manner to support sales and ensure company wins an above average percentage of jobs proposed
  • Perform all aspects of the bidding process including measuring properties for field estimates, reviewing invitations to bid, pre-site inspections, drawing plans for irrigation and landscaping or maintenance services, and preparing estimates
  • Submit accurate bids in a timely and effective manner, always meeting deadlines of the requesting party
  • Meet or exceed established sales goals
  • Accurately record and meet the budgeted estimating man-hours required to generate an estimate on all assigned jobs.
  • Secure and manage suppliers in conjunction with production staff for all products and services the project will require Negotiate with suppliers for the lowest possible price without losing quality or on-time delivery
  • Provide value engineering ideas that may improve Munie’s competitive position establishing Munie as an expert within the market
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations
  • Maintain keen awareness and provide candid feedback on customer relationship and perceptions of the product and service being provided to maximize customer retention
  • Communicate to appropriate parties any problem areas and work to find immediate resolution
  • Analyzed award bids for estimating accuracy
  • Continuously source for new products or vendors are qualified, tested and/or approved to be reliable before utilizing

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK CONDITIONS

  • Ability to stand, walk, and sit unassisted for up to 12 hours per day
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions
  • Ability to work 50-55 hours per week through peak season
  • Ability to work up to 6 days a week
  • Place safety above everything else

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree (preferred)
  • Three years of experience estimating, project management, or related area
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate, present and influence customers credibly and effectively
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft systems
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a good driving record
  • Possess a knack for negotiation and networking
  • Solid judgement along with decision making skills
  • Highly motivated with excellent work ethic

As the Estimator, other duties may be assigned to you and changed from time to time by or under the authority of the President.
