Washington County Environmental Health Program within the Health and Human Services Department, Public Health Division is looking for an Environmental Health Supervisor. The mission of the Environmental Health Program is to protect and promote the health of the public by providing inspection and disease prevention services in the areas of food safety (including restaurants and other public food service facilities), public pools and spas, recreation facilities, mosquito control, smoke-free workplace enforcement, onsite wastewater management, and drinking water.
We strive to enhance the quality of life in our County and community by educating, performing routine inspections and investigations, taking enforcement action when warranted, and interacting with state, federal and local agencies when appropriate.
About the position:
The Environmental Health (EH) Supervisor organizes and supervises environmental health programs and services; supervises and coordinates the work of Environmental Health Specialists and other assigned staff to comply with public health laws and administrative rules; and performs a variety of technical tasks related to inspection and compliance with environmental health regulations. In addition to leading a team of talented and committed staff, this position participates in the Public Health management group and assists in developing and implementing division-level Public Health strategies and activities.

The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge and training in environmental sanitation principles and methods, including communicable disease and sanitation investigation, vector control, and soil evaluation. They will also have project supervision, direct supervision, and/or management experience. We are looking for an individual with strong organizational and communication skills; an understanding of the impacts of cultural, social, and behavioral factors in delivering programs and services; and the ability to provide input and assist in developing and implementing division-level Public Health strategies and activities.

Education and Experience:
- A Master’s Degree in public or community health from an accredited college or university; AND a minimum of two (2) years of experience in an environmental health program that includes advanced responsibilities and/or project supervision and management and one (1) year of which must be in environmental sanitation under the supervision of a registered environmental health specialist or sanitarian; OR
- A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university and 45 quarter hours or the equivalent semester hours in science courses related to environmental sanitation approved by Oregon Environmental Health Registration Board; AND a minimum of four (4) years of experience in an environmental health program that includes advanced responsibilities and/or project supervision and management and two (2) years of which must be in environmental sanitation under the supervision of a registered environmental health specialist or sanitarian.
ADDITIONAL LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, PHYSICAL ABILITIES AND SPECIALTY REQUIREMENTS
- Must be registered as an Environmental Health Specialist by the Oregon Environmental Health Registration Board. If not registered as an Environmental Health Specialist at time of appointment, must be registered as an Environmental Health Trainee by the Oregon Environmental Health Registration Board. The Environmental Health Trainee must become a registered Environmental Health Specialist by the Oregon Health Registration Board within six (6) months of appointment. Refer to the Oregon Administrative Rule Chapter 700 (https://www.oregonlegislature.gov/bills_laws/ors/ors700.html) to check the eligibility.
- Must possess a driver’s license valid in the State of Oregon and have an acceptable driving record pursuant to Washington County’s Driving Policy. To review the Driver's License and Record Policy for Washington County
