Summary
Seeking an Environmental Compliance Specialist to join our The Navy Integrated Training Environment (NITE) is team to support our customer operations in the Coronado, California area. The selected candidate will conduct required environmental tests, analysis and observations. Evaluate results and makes recommendations as necessary for maintaining compliance with regulatory agencies. Monitor and evaluate the workplace to ensure compliance with governmental regulatory agencies. While planning and managing the general health, safety, and loss control policies and procedures of the organization.
Work will require local travel to two satellite locations located at Naval Base Pt. Loma, San Diego, CA and San Clemente Island, CA. Travel to Pt. Loma is local via car. Travel to San Clemente Island is via government/contract provided small aircraft. This position requires flexibility to work occasional non-standard work hours and work weeks of more than 40 hours to meet business, customer, and contractual requirements.
What you will do
- Identifies hazardous workplace conditions and takes preliminary samples and measurements of hazardous forces and toxic substances, removes hazards and/or protects employees by guarding, revising work procedures, and training or requiring use of protective clothing and personal protective equipment.
- Takes effective steps to ensure that workplace conditions comply with applicable federal and state occupational safety and health standard provisions of any labor agreement, ensuring that all required records are prepared and maintained.
- Participates in Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) inspections and in any procedures that may follow a citation.
- Investigates, prepares, and forwards as required reports on injuries and fatalities. Conducts safe work procedures training courses.
- Position requires flexibility as duties and responsibilities may be adjusted to meet business, customer, and contractual requirements.
What you must have
- 5 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 3 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 0 years experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 9 years relevant experience.
- Experience with OSHA, NAVOSH and HAZMAT standards.
- Ensure that hazardous materials and waste on the range are handled in accordance with all federal, state, local and Naval Environmental Regulations.
- Perform other duties as specified by program management.
- Ability to Obtain/Maintain a DoD secret security clearance.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds.
Preferred: Bonus Points for...
- Knowledge of military training operations.
- Ability to manage safety and environmental programs for a division of approximately 200 personnel with limited direction from senior managers.
- Ability to write reports and provide face-to-face briefs and training sessions.
- Basic knowledge of military live fire training ranges, e.g. weapons and lasers.
- Candidates who possess a DoD clearance preferred.
Physical Requirements
May require working in an industrial or shipboard environment. Normally not required to lift more than 50 pounds higher than three feet above feet/floor level. May encounter extremes of temperature, pollution, humidity, noise, and other environmental factors while collecting data, observing performance of task teams.
