The position will provide full-time, on-site non-personal services Electronic Technician (ET) support to the Engineering/Instrumentation Department of the Navy Experimental Diving Unit (NEDU), Panama City, FL.
The successful candidate will work in the NEDU Instrumentation Lab and be responsible for the design, repair, operation and maintenance of electronic equipment used to test and evaluate underwater diving systems and conduct hyperbaric physiological monitoring.
This position requires a comprehensive, intensive, and practical knowledge of the theories and techniques of electronics, such as electricity, electronic theory, algebra, and elementary physics; the ability to apply that knowledge to the duties involved in this position; and knowledge of the capabilities, limitations, design characteristics and uses of a wide variety of biomedical electronic equipment used in human research physiology. The successful candidate must be able to provide training and supervision for the operators of this equipment.
This work contributes to or affects mission effectiveness and operational capabilities and safety of U.S. Navy diving and submarine operations.
Responsibilities:
Technical support includes:
- Design and construction of electronic instrumentation and network system(s) necessary for measurement of various physical parameters which affect manned diving equipment performance.
- Assist in the preparation of wiring schematics of the instrumentation data acquisition systems for the Medical Deck, Test Pool, Aquatic Test Facility, and unmanned testing laboratory.
- Perform design changes and interface instrumentation for use in hyperbaric chambers.
- Assist in acquisition and reduction of data derived from various NEDU experiments.
- Design and develop interfaces between instrumentation and computer data acquisition systems by writing advanced LabVIEW programs.
- Perform test and evaluation of newly designed or available commercial/government instrumentation.
- Design and develop instrumentation and monitor construction by contractors of specialized instrumentation.
The technician will assist in efforts to develop and improve testing procedures used for both manned and unmanned tests. The technician must keep abreast of current state-of-the-art technology relating to instrumentation used in conjunction with tests performed at NEDU.
- Bachelors or Master’s degree in the applicable discipline
- Ability obtain and maintain a DOD Secret security clearance.
- US Citizenship required.
