About the Division
The Buildings & Grounds Division (B&G) is responsible for the Capitol Campus and DES managed building operations, stewardship, and historic preservation. B&G provides service to over 42 agencies, maintains, operates and preserves the 486-acre state Capitol Campus in Olympia, including more than 28 buildings, 18 public monuments, four state parks and a 260-acre lake. B&G executes these responsibilities through the following service programs: Facilities Operations, Grounds Operations, Leadership and Admin, Maintenance & Repairs, Support Services (custodial).
This position reports directly to the assigned Electrical Supervisor who schedules work and plans projects. This role requires interaction with the building tenants, Asset, Property and Tenant facility Managers, B&G trade staff, vendors, contractors, and visitors. Employees in this position work independently or under the supervision of the appropriate tradesperson. The employee is expected to follow approved DES work processes and procedures; national and local building codes and standards to accomplish work assignments in a timely manner.

Some of what you will be doing
- Perform installation, alterations, and repair, and remodels building electrical systems
- Install, modify, maintain, and repair interior and exterior wiring and cables, connections for electric machines, switches and controls, fuse boxes, breaker panels, distribution and instrument panels, and power circuits
- Installs, adjusts, maintains, modifies, and repairs electric motors, equipment, and instruments such as pumps, clocks, lamps, metering devices, power tools, motors and generators
- Connect, operate and maintain a variety of equipment including, but not limited to switchgear, panel boards, switch boxes, system wiring, motors, pumps, switches, lighting, and controllers
- Respond to emergency situations such as power outages
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Journey level standing as an Electrician EL-01as attested by:
- Completion of a recognized apprenticeship
OR - Full journey level status in an Electrical Workers Union
- Completion of a recognized apprenticeship
- One year applicable work experience as a journey-level in building and equipment maintenance.

- Ability to perform skilled electrical, Carpentry, Paint, Plumbing, Electrical and HVAC work
- Knowledge of standard practices, methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the Electrical, Carpentry, Paint and HVAC trades
- Knowledge of current national and local building codes and standards
- Ability to work from blueprints, plans and sketches; estimate labor and materials required to accomplish the work
- Use of hand and power tools required accomplishing building and grounds maintenance, repairing and construction work
- Perform trades related mathematical calculations
Work conditions
- This position works a majority the time indoors, with some work performed outside under adverse conditions. Working on electrical systems which could cause shock or electrocution hazards. Moving up to 50 pounds. Loud noises.
- Possess and maintain a current Electrical License (EL-01 License) issued by the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries
- Possess and maintain a motor vehicle operator’s license valid under WA state law, free from serious traffic violations
Travel Requirements: Position requires infrequent (10% or less) travel to meet with managers or employees, attend or provide training. Travel required visiting various worksites, meet with clients and occasional overnight travel may be necessary to attend or present at conferences in state and out of state, attend seminars, conferences or training.
