Huber Engineered Woods LLC, manufacture of engineered wood products is currently seeking an EHS&S Specialist on our divisional EHS team that is based in Commerce, Georgia, located about 20 minutes from Athens, Georgia. The EHS&S Specialist is a key member of the HEW EHS team, responsible for multiple sites across the US providing support in the areas of Environmental Health and Safety. Job responsibilities include: Assisting the Director of EHS with preventing occupational injuries and illnesses. Assuring continued compliance with all applicable federal, state, local, safety, and environmental regulations and rules, and other company requirements across the division. Coordination of development, administration, and implementation of safety policies, procedures, risk reduction, and loss control programs. Provides technical expertise and leadership in the execution of projects to mitigate process safety risks at all manufacturing sites.

Requirements & Preferred Competencies

  • BS degree in Safety Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Eligible to pursue the Professional Engineer, and/or Certified Safety Professional, and/or Certified Industrial Hygienist professional designation(s).
  • 1 -5 years of experience in occupational safety& health, environmental compliance, and process safety management in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1910.119 Process Safety Management
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic statistical, data analysis and mathematics skills are required.
  • Computer skills in MS Office Suite as well as e-mail and internet researching skills.
  • Strong focus on planning, employee relations, safety management, injury prevention, and program development.
  • Strong work ethic with a hands-on approach to work and a willingness to learn.
  • Able to simultaneously manage multiple projects and initiatives that support the EHS function
  • Must be able to speak and write effectively in English.
  • Ability to travel to plant sites.

Major Challenges:

  • To be aware at all times of existing and new occupational safety regulations and hazards that apply to HEW
  • Become the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the HSMS.
  • To monitor, document, and communicate relevant EHS metrics.
  • To advise the EHS&S Director, in a timely manner, of deficiencies regarding safety and environmental compliance and to recommend the appropriate actions to address the deficiencies.
  • Be familiar with the function of production equipment and systems throughout the plants to support their safe and compliant operation.
  • Identify sector priorities to develop and execute capital projects and deploy risk mitigation procedures.
  • Develop OS&H best practices for remote and office-based Commercial and Sales teams.
  • Effectively communicate changes or new programs in safety to all plant employees to ensure that these changes are understood and accepted. Be prepared to offer methods to ensure the uniform observance of these changes.
  • Attend all federal, state, and company-mandated training, read and comply with Job Hazard or Safety Analysis (JSA) information that applies to the area in which you work, wear appropriate personal protection equipment (PPE) while on the job, and report/or correct any unsafe condition that you may observe. Report all injuries to your supervisor.
  • Be aware of and know how to access the JM Huber EHS&S Policy, the Huber Sustainability Management System (HSMS), and procedures
