Position Overview

  • Designs and/or coordinates the implementation of internal EHS guidelines and processes within assigned organization.
  • Develops, proposes and implements EHS processes and/or methods.
  • Plans and accomplishes roll out of EHS programs or projects, and monitors respective milestone in related organization.
  • Analyses and monitors adherence to EHS standards in assigned organizations, and prepares regular EHS reporting.
  • Analyzes and reports on changes in relevant EHS laws and regulations, and recommend changes for internal standards.
  • Contributes to internal and external EHS audits, in support of accountable EHS officer.
  • Prepares regular external EHS reporting for official authorities, or for internal stakeholder.
  • Maintains operational contact to external authorities.
  • Trains employees and management.
  • Keeps abreast with all respective regulations and standards in regional or local law.
  • All intercompany reporting and data monitoring
  • All required reporting to government agencies including but not limited to EPA, DNR, and OSHA
  • Liaison between operations and facilities management including security concerns
  • All required EHS training and regulatory obligations
  • New hire orientation and onboarding requirements
  • Management of integrated management system ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001
  • Provide management and leadership to the HSE Organization for Onshore Projects and Factories. Oversight of HSE responsibilities at Wind Farms during construction/commissioning and at Factories during assembly/manufacturing. Managing HSE personnel at the Wind Farms and in the back office and providing functional guidance to HSE personnel in the factories.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of approximately 8-10 direct reports plus contractors as well as provide functional guidance to 3-6 HSE personnel in the factories and tooling center.
  • Set HSE Strategy for Onshore North America and ensure it is aligned with the global strategy.
  • Establish HSE Targets and Objectives for Onshore North America. Track and report to the management team.
  • Prepare and communicate the HSE Monthly PSM Reports to the Projects organization.
  • Establish, track, and report the HSE KPI’s.
  • Plan, initiate and coordinate continuous improvement of new/revised HSE programs and initiatives.
  • Support TE in the HSE decisions for retrofits, potential retrofits, yearly release process and new turbines.
  • Ensures all injuries and near misses are analyzed for trends and that corrective actions are implemented.
  • Ensure the projects are staffed with qualified HSE professionals to meet customer and legal compliance. Address day to day issues to ensure appropriate risk measures are in place during the transportation, installation and commissioning of wind turbines.
  • Ensure appropriate levels of management are made aware of HSE deficiencies and provide a recommended course of action to eliminate or minimize risks until the deficiency is corrected. Support the Region CEO in executing their strategy regarding HSE.
  • Ensure Region maintains the OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001 certifications. These certifications are required by nearly all customers.
  • Implement control measures from top environmental aspects and adapt for the American segment including customer and legal requirement check e.g. waste management, prohibited substances, environmental impact etc.

Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

  • 10 years or more of successful experience in the Health, Safety and Environmental field.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills (must be able to present effectively to executive management)
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple competing priorities
  • Advocate for Zero Harm Safety Culture with ability to influence decisions and actions within the management team to ensure Safety comes first
  • Extensive Knowledge about OSHA regulations

Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

  • Experience in the Wind Industry
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English
  • Certified Safety Professional
  • OSHA 30hr certification
  • First Aid, CPR, AED certification
