Job Summary:

This position works closely with colleagues in the Analytics group, and partners in Academic Affairs, to report on data from multiple structured and unstructured sources, including confirming accuracy, organizing, and cleaning the data. Work ranges from ad hoc query development, to large-scale school and accreditation reporting, and possible data visualization projects, and may be done independently, or in collaboration with team members.

This position is part of the Analytics team in the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH) Informatics and IT group, providing key data analysis and reporting to senior leadership, students, and other stakeholders across SMPH.

Strong candidates for this role will have a good technical foundation in querying and communicating data, a love of learning, and an ability to develop relationships across reporting lines. Excellent candidates will be able to adapt their communication style for collaboration with technical colleagues, diverse subject matter experts, and leadership, and are excited by supporting better outcomes for our students.

The Educational Data Analyst will report to Elizabeth Simcock, Analytics Manager. The Analytics group provides data infrastructure, integration, and reporting to the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH). We partner with our project stakeholders long-term and have a mindset of continuous process improvement, with goals of improving data literacy and expanding data-informed decision-making. All projects are done with an eye toward future sustainability and sharing of effort across multiple data domains. We also partner closely with both campus and UWHealth in support of both institution-wide and cross-institution data stability.

Education:

Qualifications:
Required:
  • 2 or more years of experience with data management
  • Great attention to detail
  • Curiosity about the data you work with, and excellent problem solving skills
  • Clear & effective written and verbal communication
  • Experience writing SQL queries against relational databases for standard and custom reports

Additionally required to be considered for level III:
  • Demonstrated ability in mentoring colleagues in best practices regarding data use and data communication
  • Examples of a proactive approach to handling data issues

Preferred:
  • Experience with visualization software such as Qlik, Tableau, or Power BI
  • Experience writing and troubleshooting advanced SQL queries
  • Ability to tell a story with data
  • Prior professional experience in an education setting
  • Ability to formally present analytical conclusions to leadership, and to communicate technology concepts effectively with technically proficient and non-technically proficient individuals


Work Type:

Full Time: 100%

It is anticipated this position will be fully remote. We have an on campus location should a finalist prefer to work onsite.

Salary:

Minimum $70,000 ANNUAL (12 months)
Depending on Qualifications
Minimum for a BI Developer II is $70,000
Minimum for a BI Developer III is $80,000



Additional Information:

The successful applicant will be responsible for ensuring eligibility for employment in the United States on or before the effective date of the appointment. University sponsorship is not available for this position.
