Summary Description

The Dispatcher’s primary responsibility is to secure freight loads and oversee delivery. The scope of responsibility includes driver performance, acquiring shipments, and accurate accounting of paperwork. The right person for this position is self-motivated, a quick learner, and can stay focused in times of stress.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Acquiring loads using load boards, email, and other resources
• Negotiating rates with shippers and brokers
• Documenting and tracking inbound and outbound loads using paperwork and dispatch software
• Coordinating with Operations Manager on performance or billing issues
• Communicating with customers and vendors throughout delivery
• Ability to communicate effectively with drivers
• Ability to work independently and as a team
• Driven for success and a willingness to work

Qualifications

Exposure – periodic exposure to loud sounds and extreme heat and/or cold

Physical – long periods of sitting, standing, walking or typing may be necessary, ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs

Stress level – periodically high stress exposure

Schedule – day shift with some weekends as necessary, 40 hours per week expected

Education/Experience

· 1-2 years’ dispatching trucks required.

Specialized Knowledge or Skills

· Detail-oriented with strong analytical and negotiation skills

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills

· Proficient with common computer software applications

Certificates and Licenses

· None required

Supervisory Responsibilities

· No direct supervisory responsibilities
