Job Summary
Under general direction of the Associate Dean of Students, the Director for Student Rights & Responsibilities (OSRR) is responsible for managing programs, policies, and procedures relating to student conduct. The Director for OSRR administers the CSU Executive Orders describing disciplinary procedures in a fair, impartial manner and applies these procedures to maintain the integrity and safety of the university community.
The Director for OSRR performs professional administrative work involving independent judgment, good communication skills, and the application of sound fiscal management and supervisory skills. The Director for OSRR represents the Office of Student Rights & Responsibilities on committees and community initiatives. The nature of the work performed by the Director for OSRR is highly confidential and sensitive and requires collaboration with numerous individuals and offices on campus as well as interacts with the University Legal Counsel, Cal Poly Police Department (CPPD), Counseling Services, Disability Resource Center, academic deans, and other campus administrators on related concerns.
The Director for OSRR will be capable of serving as a technical resource to the campus community for persons who need technical assistance on reporting options and proper referral of discrimination, harassment, retaliation (DHR), sexual misconduct, dating violence, domestic violence, stalking, and other student conduct matters. Mandatory training will be provided to ensure that the Director for OSRR is informed of any changes in University policy or law. The Director for OSRR serves as a key member of the Office of the Dean of Students management team. The Director must have sound and independent judgment, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

The mission of the Office of the Dean of Students is to serve as a resource for helping students resolve university-related issues and concerns. The Office of the Dean of Students is committed to supporting the academic success of students by fostering the development of integrity and problem-solving skills, teaching self-advocacy and personal responsibility, and helping students understand the fundamental principles of good citizenship and responsible leadership.
Key Qualifications
Demonstrated practical application of facilitation, advising, mediation, conflict resolution, and negotiation; ability to use tact and diplomacy to effectively handle a broad range of high level and sensitive interpersonal situations with diverse personalities, and to respond appropriately to conflicts and problems.
Understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and disability backgrounds of students.
Knowledge of recent legislation relating to implementation of Title IX on college campuses and the Campus SaVE Act.
Understanding and practical application of program development, training, and coordination skills. Ability to research, plan, evaluate and implement programs and services relating to the adjudication of complex disciplinary cases.
Experience extracting, interpreting and compiling qualitative and quantitative data for a variety of audiences, and effectively communicate results of analyses.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree required and a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience, demonstrating student services, programs, projects, and resource management.
Salary and Benefits
The anticipated hiring range for this role is $80,000 - $100,000 Per Year. Note that the offer is calculated based on the background and relevant years of experience of the individual selected.

This position may be "Designated" under California State University's Conflict of Interest Code. This would require the filing of a Statement of Economic Interest on an annual basis and the completion of training within 6 months of assuming office and every 2 years thereafter.
