Director of Reimbursement and Revenue

FLSA STATUS: Exempt, Full-Time

REPORTS TO: Chief Financial Officer

SUPERVISES: Revenue Cycle Manager, Billing Department

DEPARTMENT: Accounting and Finance

POSITION SUMMARY:


The Director of Reimbursement and Revenue will assist in the preparation of revenue, supporting schedules, analysis, reporting, and audits according to the monthly, quarterly, and yearly close and reporting schedule.


Additionally, the Director of Reimbursement and Revenue will support all levels of medical billing as required.


POSITION DUTIES/ESSENTIAL
FUNCTIONS:

The following duties are normal for this position. This list is not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.


Leadership –
Regularly reviews the organization’s reimbursement and revenue, policies and procedures, systems, and recording. Bringing recommendations to the Chief Financial Officer. Develops and uses financial data as appropriate to enhance Operations ability to meet goals. Strong focus on cash inflows as they pertain to reimbursement practices, payment timing, and billing procedures.


Plans, develops, organizes, implements, evaluates, and directs the organization’s reimbursement and revenue function under the guidance of the Chief Financial Officer.


Financial Deliverables – Prepare monthly account reconciliations and audit schedules. Process revenue entries and reporting. Furnishes timely conveyance of reports, remittances and/or filings associated Federal and State regulatory bodies, banking institutions, taxing authorities, bond administrators, etc., as required.


Prepare ad hoc financial management reports and dashboards as required for financial and operational reporting.


Administration –
Analyze revenues, processes, and applicable contracts to ensure they are recorded and align with applicable financial policy and procedures. Assist with the preparation of Management Discussion and Analysis (MD&A) on a monthly basis.


  • Assist with cash management to ensure appropriate level of cash available to fund operating cash.
  • Assist in documentation and monitoring of internal controls.
  • Assist with financial and other audits.
  • Assist with preparing tax returns and corporate reporting requirements.


Provide accounting and software training to other accounting and / or operational personnel. Assist with the implementation of consistent business practices to assure revenue accounting data integrity. Assists in standardizing the revenue accounting methods. Evaluates the accounting processes and procedures and makes recommendations to enhance efficiency of accounting revenue function given available resources. Assists in necessary implantation processes regarding revenue, billing, and coding for pending integrated and redesigned systems.


Responsible for the maintenance of the reimbursement and revenue systems utilized by the accounting department, including day to day maintenance and report design and development. Work in conjunction with the organization’s IT department and outside consultants as needed for maintenance and operation of the accounting and reporting software.


Assist in the annual budget process with operations. Lead and direct the work of others as required.


Perform additional activities and responsibilities as needed by the Chief Financial Officer.


POSITION
REQUIREMENTS:


Educational Requirements and Experience:

  • Minimum of Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance – preferred.
    • Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration – preferred.
      • Experience will be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience of proven experience as a Director of Patients Accounts, or Director of Reimbursement, or similar role – required.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience of hands-on revenue leadership experience – required.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Long–Term Care, Skilled Nursing Elder Care, and Multi-Health System facilities – required.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience possessing a broad knowledge and ability to review Medicare, Medicaid, Insurance, and Managed Care Contracts. – required.
  • Experience building, designing and transitioning revenue systems – required.
  • Proven ability to provide strategic financial analysis.
  • Proven ability to demonstrate courage and challenge upward and outward.
  • Highly organized with the capacity to manage work and priorities autonomously.
  • Ability to manage a large medical billing system.
  • Advanced knowledge of PowerPoint, Publisher, Excel, Word, Outlook Email and Calendar.
  • Must be “hands-on”, roll up your sleeves, meet deadlines, and bring projects over the finish line for the organization to succeed.
  • Must be self-reflective, open to feedback, and speak transparently.
  • Must be able to have transportation to travel to multiple sites, events, and vendors.
  • Ability to maintain sensitive information and confidential data.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:

Primary work will be performed indoors in an office setting, may be exposed to the elements (heat, cold, rain, snow); walking and standing frequently; occasional lifting of up to 35 pounds.

  • Work indoors in a climate controlled setting.
  • Possible exposure to unpleasant odors.
  • Possible exposure to chemicals as identified in the MSDS Manual.
  • Possible exposure to infections, diseases and blood borne pathogens.
  • Possible exposure to residents who may be ill, confused, irritable and irrational.
  • May be subject to angered and/or emotionally upset family members, personnel, and visitors.
  • May work beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary.
