General Purpose

This position is responsible for investigating, developing and managing innovation and new initiatives in line with the mission, goals and strategies of the Burlington International Airport to achieve efficiencies, competitive advantages within the market, and enhanced safety for all Airport users and employees, with a global focus on sustainability. This position will also have a vital role in the development of a strategic and competitive air service development plan and a global marketing implementation plan to meet airport goals.

Essential Job Functions

  • Works cooperatively with airport staff, airport stakeholders, and officials to discover new solutions and approaches to historic challenges.
  • Formulate effective new ideas and innovative strategies for Airport development, marketing, branding, and business opportunities.
  • Analyzes existing practices to isolate areas eligible for improvement or enhancement.
  • Encourages creative thinking with Airport staff and continuously develops ways to nurture innovative thinking across all areas of the Airport.
  • Follow customer responses to new ideas, tracks and analyzes the success of new services, and responds to customer questions and/or concerns, including within the noise mitigation programs.
  • Monitors research and development of other Airport's to spot trends in innovation and supplement research findings in the Airport industry.
  • Allocates resources to maintain the Airport's existing practices, while accounting for new projects.
  • Evaluates the progress of innovation and adjusts the pace or direction of new projects in accordance.
  • Leads the Airport communication plan, including branding, signage, presentations, and community outreach.
  • Assist’s in Airline contractual negotiations and air service incentive program implementation.
  • Leads the Air Service Development efforts rooted in statistical evidence and qualitative data derived from business and passenger engagement.
  • Leads the Air Service Development efforts, in conjunction with the Director of Aviation, with airline corporate partners and recommends strategies to the Director for additional air service growth, either with incumbent airlines or new service providers, which includes initiatives to align with Airport with community stakeholders to grow passenger air service.
  • Directs marketing plans and strategies for promoting air service, industrial development, including promotional materials, airline statistical information and public presentations.
  • Directors the Airport’s social media presence and campaigns.
  • Coordinates all technology requests within the Airport Department with all employees, facilities, and tenants.
  • Serves as the Federally Required Airport Cyber Security Coordinator, with duties set forth by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). This positions would coordinate with the City’s Innovation and Technology department as needed.
  • Manages the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Civil Rights Act, Title VI Program to ensure diversity, equity and inclusion metrics are met and grow the airport inclusivity on a continual basis.
  • Direct safety programing, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulatory requirements for the purpose of safeguarding employees, including Airport insurance inspections and remediations.
  • Ensure the safety of Airport properties from a insurance liability framework.
  • Trains all new employees with the Airport's mission and maintains consistency with the Airport's strategy and communication goals, inclusive of safety and sustainability.
  • Represents the Airport at various event’s and conferences as directed.
  • Maintains and supports a high level of customer service to peers, partners, and customers.
  • Maintains contact with news media personnel as directed by the Director of Aviation.
  • Performs other duties as required by the Director of Aviation.

Qualifications/Basic Job Requirements

  • Ability to actively support City diversity, equity, and cultural competency efforts within stated job responsibilities and work effectively across diverse cultures and constituencies.

  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination required, reasonable accommodations will be considered.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Communications, Information Technology or related fields.
  • Additional experience may be substituted for a degree requirement on a two-for-one year basis.
  • Five (5) years of relevant experience within a marketing, branding, air service, or airport environment required.
  • Three (3) years of supervisory experience required.
  • Airport experience preferred.
  • Ability to obtain a Burlington International Airport Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge, which includes a 10-year fingerprint based criminal history records check, a security threat assessment check and a written exam within one (1) month of employment or less and maintain badge privileges throughout employment.
  • Federal Government program management experience preferred.
  • Information Technology experience preferred.
  • High level of proficiency in various computer programs including Microsoft Outlook, Office Suite Applications – Work and Excel; experience with Adobe and digital work order systems preferred.
  • Ability to act as an "ambassador" of the Airport to all users to ensure safety, enjoyment, and to put forth the vision of the City and Department, and to direct and motivate subordinate staff to do the same.
  • Ability to facilitate and attend meetings at times other than regular business hours.
  • Ability to be on-call 24/7 for Innovation based emergencies.
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays, as required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Must be detail oriented and creative.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, customer service, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and adapt quickly to changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with others in a team environment.
  • Ability to inspect work and monitor projects for adherence to specifications, divisional procedures and other pertinent regulations and codes.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, customers, stakeholders and other personnel.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of competency in safe work procedures and safe building standards.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with supervisors, staff, subordinates, governmental and industrial representatives, and the general public.
  • Regular attendance is necessary and is essential to meeting the expectations of the job functions.
  • Ability to understand and comply with City standards, safety rules and personnel policies.
