Reports To: Vice President, Data Management

Status: Remote/Hybrid, Full-Time, Exempt, 12 month role

Director of Analytics: The Director of Analytics supports the management of all student data across the organization, maintains the organization’s data infrastructure, and develops BI tools to be used by staff. Additionally, this role supports the cluster data teams in managing and visualizing student data to help support Bright Star Schools' missions and vision.

Database Development and Maintenance

  • Collaborate with 3rd party vendor (Langing Zone) to develop and maintain Bright Stars’ Google Cloud-managed data infrastructure, including coordinating weekly and monthly meetings to discuss progress and troubleshoot issues
  • Perform regular system analysis on the database checking for data quality and accuracy (including scheduled queries, table views, and data connectors) as well as database debugging
  • Submit tickets to Landing Zone in response to issues with the database or submit requests for further development
  • Write custom SQL queries against databases to analyze and visualize data.
  • Write and creates scheduled queries, table views, and custom tables to supplement the database as needed for analytics
  • Create and maintain proper documentation including detailed database definitions
  • Manage the Ed-Fi Configuration and Code Mapping within Aeries SIS and collaborate with the Director of SIS to identify and resolve issues
  • Any additional duties as assigned

BI Dashboard Development, Maintenance, and Distribution

  • Collaborate with end users (school leadership) to gather report/dashboard requirements and ensures proper testing and validation
  • Develop Business Intelligence dashboards to be used by schools and School Support Team staff to help Bright Star Schools achieve its mission
  • Maintenance of the Data Department’s DataPedia Google Site which contains, among other things, dashboards created using Google Looker Studio
  • Contribute to the Data Team’s knowledge base with articles covering topics in Data Analytics including, but not limited, using Looker Studio dashboards and connected Google Sheets

Internal/External Data Reporting

  • Provide data support and analysis for LCAP, Organizational Health Dashboards, School Action Plans, and other similar reports used to measure Bright Star’s progress to fulfilling org goals and mission
  • Coordinate with Data Team for external reporting needs (i.e. charter renewals, grant applications, etc)

Data Department Support

  • Responsible for supporting the VP of Data Management in the development and execution of annual department goals.
  • Collaborate with the VP of Data Management and leadership teams (such as the Academic Leadership Team) to identify opportunities to utilize data in supporting Instruction and culture in schools.
  • Identify, develop, and deliver professional development training for Data Team members, including providing remote support to all Data Team members in areas of data analysis and visualization.
  • As a member of the Data Team Leadership team collaborates with the VP, Director of SIS, and Manager of Data Compliance to plan the department’s projects
  • Any additional duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree, required
  • 5 years or more years of experience in school data management and student information systems, required
  • Proficiency in Looker (Google) Data Studio, Tableau, or other similar BI Tools, required
  • Proficiency in SQL, required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft and Google Productivity Suites, including highly proficient with Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets, required
  • Experience with Google Cloud products including Google Cloud Storage and BigQuery, preferred
  • Experience with Python, preferred
  • Charter school experience, preferred

Salary and Benefits:

Salary: $95,000 - $115,000/year, based on experience

Location: Hybrid/remote, must be located within 50 miles of Los Angeles, CA
