Department Summary
The College of Education includes 4 academic departments and 6 associated research centers. As a member of the Dean’s Office Leadership Team, the Director of COE IT support will play a key role in strategic decision making and support for planning in COE.

Position Overview
This position provides strategic planning and operational oversight of multiple areas in information technology within the college. Oversees prioritization and allocation of computing resources to achieve college goals. Works with a variety of internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective and efficient operations, including formulation and approval of service goals, policy development and approval, compliance with associated regulations, staff supervision, and budget development to meet school/college and university goals.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in related field and seven years of related computing work experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training.



Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Considerable knowledge of principles of computing and/or communications networks, and characteristics of computing hardware and software used in computing environments, preferably higher education.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills.
  • Ability to analyze varied courses of action and participate in strategic planning.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to work with considerable independence and initiative.


Preferred Qualifications
Experience with JAMP (Mac OS device management) and Microsoft Management.

Job Duties

o
Management and primary supervisor of COETech Office Staff. Co-Hiring manager for all COETech Staff (with Associate Dean for IT).

o
Primary Apple Device Administrator. Create, test, and deploy software packages/scripts, group policies, profiles. In coordination with COE-Help Desk Supervisor oversees the imaging and deployment of new software and hardware devices.

o
Conducts strategic planning around providing technology support for the achievement of COE strategic goals.

o
Collaborates with Department Chairs (or designated representatives) to evaluate instructional technology needs prior to the start of each long semester. Develops department specific plans to support instructional technology needs. This may also include support for department hosted speaker series.

o
Collaborates with Associate Dean for Research to review research technology needs for new faculty start-up and grant proposals. After awards are funded, works with PI on project-specific implementation strategy. Prepares and maintains a statement of COE Technology capacities for grant proposal submissions.

o
Meets individually with new faculty to assess technology needs prior to or shortly after arrival on campus. Develops individualized support plans as necessary.

o
In collaboration with the Academic Associate Dean and Student Advising Office, plans for the collection of student data associated with course enrollment needs. Analyzes data and provides feedback regarding course needs and proposed scheduling times twice a year.

o
Monitors and develops a rotation for the upgrade/replacement and implementation of technology in COE (i.e., hardware, software, training, etc.).
