The Dining Service and Events Department at Saint John’s University invites applications for a full-time (0.75), benefit-eligible position of Dining Associate.
The position provides hospitality service to the community of Saint John’s University. Performs kitchen production as well as customer service to customers at Sexton Dining. Primary responsibilities include Sexton service line set-up; assist in the assembly of menu items for Sexton, The Schu, and Saint John’s Prep School; customer service; assist with other aspects of service and operations of SJU Dining. This position is designated as essential staff.

- Assists in the assembly, production, packaging, and labeling of quality menu items for Sexton, the Schu, and Prep school. May include making salads, wraps, sandwiches, hot menu items, and parfaits; stocking shelves. Must be willing to learn and adapt as needed.
- Ensures that service lines are set up prior to opening each day.
- Keeps assigned areas supplied with quality food products, tends to food stations, and neatly maintains clean work areas.
- Ensures that retail shelves and coolers are kept clean and fully stocked.
- Assists in providing service training to student and volunteer staff assigned to Sexton Dining, including provisional, student, and external staff.
- Follows all safety requirements when using equipment. Strictly adheres to established food safety guidelines. Practices proper lifting techniques.

- Diploma or equivalent education and experience
- Previous food service/catering and/or production experience.
- Able to communicate in a friendly, professional manner with students, customers, and coworkers.
- Able to pass provided food safety training/certification as required.
- Projects a positive image of service, which represents the unit to which assigned.
- Willing to maintain a high level of competence.
- High percentage of the work shift walking and standing; frequent lifting, up to 50 lb; bending; stooping; carrying.
- Exposure to and use of commercial cleaning agents such as soap, cleaners, and sanitizers.
- Occasional exposure to hot and cold temperature extremes.
