The Assistant Credit Department Manager is responsible for implementing the objectives of the Senior Credit Department Manager and participating in the underwriting & loan summary preparation related to credit facilities. This position demonstrates leadership in all areas of credit, with a primary focus on risk management, strategic implementation, and evaluation of the credit culture. The Assistant Credit Department Manager also actively manages a team of Credit Analysts and helps with their overall professional development. Department functions include assisting with recruiting, training, and developing credit analysts, underwriting loans of high credit levels and complexity, and serving as a resource to Credit Risk Management for special projects.

Description:
The Assistant Credit Department Manager is responsible for implementing the objectives of the Senior Credit Department Manager and participating in the underwriting & loan summary preparation related to credit facilities. The Assistant Credit Department Manager also actively manages a team of Credit Analysts and helps with their overall professional development. Department functions include assisting with recruiting, training, and developing credit analysts, underwriting loans of high credit levels and complexity, and serving as a resource to Credit Risk Management for special projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assists with the overall management of the Credit Department by driving efficiency, quality and continued training & education.
- Assists the Senior Credit Department Manager with providing systems support for Portfolio Managers and other members of Commercial Banking.
- Oversees spreading of financial statements and tax returns; conducts comprehensive analyses to determine the degree of risk involved and profitability of extending credit or lending money, such as cash flow, trend and industry analysis.
- Prepares Underwriting packages; communicates results and recommendations in a written narrative.
- Compiles and reviews information regarding guarantors and the borrowing company’s financial history and current condition.
- Coordinates and prioritizes workflow between Portfolio Manager, Relationship Mangers and Credit Department personnel in the absence of the Senior Credit Department Manager
Competencies Required:
- Working knowledge of lending and credit risk management concepts, practices, and procedures.
- Good attention to detail and concern for data accuracy.
- Excellent critical thinking and decision-making skills; demonstrated ability to make sound business judgements.
- Strong customer service and communication skills, including technical writing abilities.
- Solid technology and internet skills, including intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, SharePoint and Excel) and ability to navigate financial software applications.
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and projects in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities and deadlines.

- 7+ years of Portfolio Manager and/or Credit Analyst experience required.
- Financial Spreading Software experience is required.
- Proven experiencing of developing and coaching direct reports required.
Formal Education & Certification:
- Bachelors’ Degree in Accounting, Business, Finance or Economics (or equivalent) required.
Work Status:
- Full-Time.
Supervisory Responsibility:
- 2 or more direct reports.
Travel:
- Less than 10% - Travel to Commercial Banking offices as necessary.
Working Conditions:
- Conditions involve lifting no more than fifteen pounds, sitting most of the time, but may involve walking, moving, or standing for brief periods, and occasionally lifting and carrying articles like files, ledgers, folders, etc.
