Position Summary Information
Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Center for Faculty Excellence (CFE) is UNC-Chapel Hill’s pan-university faculty development center, supporting faculty at all career stages. The CFE supports faculty members’ progress through the various stages of their careers in their roles as teachers, researchers, and leaders. The CFE serves as a hub for faculty at all levels to access and utilize mentoring to enable them to achieve their goals. The CFE offers programs, resources, and consultations in all areas to promote faculty success. The CFE values partnerships across campus to offer a synergistic approach to faculty development, connecting faculty to resources across the University. The Center for Faculty Excellence is dedicated to equitable support for faculty with attention to diversity and inclusive teaching and faculty development.
Position Summary
This position is eligible for a 100% remote work arrangement, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside in North Carolina, within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
The Center for Faculty Excellence (CFE) seeks an enthusiastic data analyst to provide outcomes and assessment-related support beginning Spring 2023.
The Data Analyst will support the CFE with survey preparation and evaluation, quantitative and qualitative data collection, and data management (50% effort). The position will also support quantitative data analysis, interpretation, visualization, and reporting for the University’s NSF grant, Targeting Equity in Access to Mentoring (TEAM) ADVANCE (25% effort), and offer recommendations and support for mixed methods research strategies with CFE/Lenovo Instructional Innovation Grant recipients (25% effort).
The Data Analyst will have experience designing, implementing, and managing processes for efficient and valuable data collection, data management, and analysis; technical knowledge to develop and perform statistical analysis; skills for coding and analyzing qualitative data; and demonstrated ability to code in a programming language (particularly R, MATLAB, or SPSS).
The Data Analyst will have content knowledge to support data interpretation, summarizing findings, data visualization, and presentation, and will play an integral role in the CFE’s ongoing evaluation and improvement of its programs as well as annual outcomes and assessment reporting. The Data Analyst will creatively develop assessment tools, data management, and statistical analysis methods; will utilize strong analytical skills for collecting, analyzing, and reporting quantitative and qualitative data; and employ programming, analytic skills, and statistical models tailored to research questions and data sources.
The Data Analyst will be responsible for managing data collection, both quantitative and qualitative, from program components (e.g., registration, attendance, surveys); designing and distributing Qualtrics surveys; collating and handling large data sets; and maintaining secure databases for staff use.
This is a part-time, permanent position, 20 hours per week.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the field assigned and one year of related training or experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Strong analytical skills for collecting, analyzing, and reporting qualitative and quantitative data
Ability to employ statistical models tailored to research questions and data sources
Proficiency in at least one programming language, particularly R, MATLAB , or SPSS
Technical expertise for database design and management

Knowledge of Microsoft Office including Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint

Ability to work independently
