Job Duties

The Virginia Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services (DARS) is seeking a Job Placement Counselor. In partnership with persons with disabilities, provides comprehensive job placement services which result in employment and enhanced independent living for persons with disabilities. Core services may include guidance and counseling, employer engagement and cultivation of employment opportunities, Pre-Employment Services and Counseling, job readiness training and job placement services. Caseload may consist of Students, youth, and adults with varying disabilities.

Minimum Qualifications:

Experience in developing employment prospects and employer relationships. Working knowledge of marketing concepts and promotional techniques. Demonstrated ability to write for professional and public audiences and conduct training. Knowledge of various software programs such as spreadsheet, word processing, desktop publishing, and database management as applicable to marketing programs. Some experience with assisting job seekers with their applications for employment outcome utilizing the internet and online websites. Ability to establish effective working relationships among diverse professionals, constituents, and advocates.

Bachelor’s degree in business management, Communications, Human Services, Marketing, Vocational Rehabilitation, or related field; or equivalent experience to demonstrate proficiency in working with businesses to employ individuals with disabilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

Some knowledge of human service delivery systems and the vocational rehabilitation process.

This has been designated a sensitive position under Va. Code § 2.2-1201.1. A fingerprint-based criminal history check will be required of the finalist candidate. The selected candidate must complete a Statement of Personal Economic Interests as a condition of employment (Va. Code § 2.2-3114)
