Job Description
As part of the WGU research marketing team, the Consumer Insights Researcher works with the marketing research team, and other marketing and cross-organizational executives to help understand consumer needs and insights. The person is responsible for supervising and conducting research initiatives and aligning research with cross organization projects. S/he is responsible for developing a holistic understanding of prospective students and other strategic audiences, leveraging information from a wide range of methods and channels to derive actionable data and analysis. Results from these analyses will be used to inform strategy and decision-making for the growth of WGU.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Customer Insights Development – Be the voice of customer and inject customer insights across many aspects of the business, including but not limited to brand strategy, communication strategy, and test market execution and assessment. Integrate and triangulate data and insight from multiple sources (primary, secondary, and syndicated) to drive holistic business recommendations and strategy development.
- Market Research & Competitive Intelligence – Work with and sometimes lead internal and/or external resources to generate insights regarding market conditions and competitors’ positioning to inform overall strategy. Collaborate with research teams to execute research plans grounded in understanding of business challenges and opportunities. Align research projects with other teams and projects to maximize impact of findings.
- Brand and Messaging Collaboration – Work with the brand team to help create research that can be used to guide brand strategy. Translate research findings into clear, actionable, and impactful insights and business recommendations utilizing best in class storytelling and engaging communication.
- Cross-Organizational Collaboration – Build relationships across the organization to help align research projects and priorities. Help stakeholders turn questions into research projects and communicate progress through the life of projects. Help stakeholders communicate research project findings with one another and align projects across the organization.

Job Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- B.S./B.A. (required) Marketing, Business, Research, or related field
- 2+ years of experience in market research, consumer insights, or related area.
- Experience in customer insights work.
- Some travel may be required to support marketing initiatives and university events.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 7+ years of experience in market research, consumer insights, or related area.
- MBA or other advanced degree in business, marketing, communications, research, or related field.
- Experience in higher education industry is a plus.
- Experience in conducting research or a willingness to learn.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
