Construction Technician

LAKE SUPERIOR CONSULTING is currently growing at a fast pace and as part of that growth, we are seeking to fill a position as a Construction Technician at our office in Pittsburgh, PA.
The CP Construction Technician will assist with all construction efforts and excavations while following client requirements and procedures. Other responsibilities include safely installing, monitoring, and maintaining components of client asset integrity systems that will ensure compliance with applicable regulations, policies, and procedures.
Responsibilities:
- Be an advocate for safe work practices by understanding, complying, and communicating construction and excavation safety practices and policies
- Ability to understand and learn excavation safety and shoring
- Work with Project leaders to build an understanding of Cathodic Protection (CP), AC Mitigation, Isolation, and other integrity related devices and equipment to ensure correct installation practices in the field.
- Learn to work as a spotter during excavation activities
- Learn processes to prepare pipe for coating application and apply coating per industry, client, and product specifications and procedures.
- Ensure all company, state, and local jurisdiction codes, traffic control, ground disturbance, and restoration policies are followed and met.
- Assist in the completion of 4-Way Sweeps and underground utility locates prior to excavation activities to ensure no line strikes or damage to buried utilities occurs.
- Adherence to company and client policies and expectations with understanding of Ground Disturbance policies and requirements relating to the excavation activities. Ability to safely load, bind and unload equipment from trailering devices.
Position Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent DOT Medical Card Holder or ability to obtain DOT Medical Card
- Related industry experience in earth moving construction.
- Well organized and ability to communicate clearly verbally and in writing
- Operate General electronics such as Laptop and Phone (Proficiency with MS Office)
- Analytical skills with ability to dissect problems and quickly develop solutions
- Understands evolving construction practices and standards, equipment and OSHA guidelines
- Ability to read drawings, plans, and blueprints to determine construction plans and schedule.
Physical Requirements and Demands:
- Flexibility to travel on demand (75% +)
- Ability to work extended hours and some weekends to meet project requirements
- Ability to work in an office environment as well as travel to nonstandard workplaces to complete project and construction requirements
- Field work can be in a physically demanding environment, at times this position will involve lifting products up to 50 lbs.
