This is a full time, exempt position
The Construction Area Manager is responsible to support a team of ADM Construction Managers serving as a leader managing the project portfolio for this group. This role will be responsible for coordination, analysis and reporting across all Projects in Decatur within surrounding Manufacturing Plants/Warehouses. Responsibility also includes identifying budget and schedule risks, and driving accountability across the Construction Team along with direction/support to EPCM companies within the project scope.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversee and provide direction to direct group of construction managers as they are assigned to specific projects within the sites.
  • Drive adoption of construction management best practices by adopting modernization with software utilization, effective communication, and auditing of projects
  • Develop and hire construction colleagues when necessary with partnership from Talent Acquisition and HR
  • Direct and lead the oversite of project execution through the Construction Manager assigned to the project from conception to completion, managing billion dollar budgets in some cases along with controls for those budgets
  • Supporting and driving contractor safety to align with all ADM safety standards/requirements
  • Provide oversite to Construction Managers assigned to projects that will require coordination and direction to contractors as necessary
  • Review and evaluate construction cost estimates to confirm complete and accurate information
  • Provide oversite for projects that can range in time from 12 months up to 5 years in duration
  • Develop communication plans for multiple projects with the core teams and key stakeholders.
  • Prepare and distribute project progress reports; handle risk, dependencies and issues.
  • Correct and/or report deviations from plan and perform delivery planning for assigned projects.
  • Reports on ongoing issues and changes utilizing existing processes and templates and publishing reports within a program/project.
  • Builds and publishes status reports of activities, accomplishments, issues and action to resolve issues.
  • Help to implement an effective system of project governance that doesn't overwhelm the team with non-value added process.
  • Team Management: Hold teams accountable for their commitments, removing roadblocks to their work.
  • Process Management and Improvement: Use agile project management processes and foster ongoing process improvement.
  • Ensure accurate communication and reporting is in place to update key stakeholders on project status.

Qualifications Education

  • A High School Diploma or GED is required. Industrial Construction Project Management, Large Project Management preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in construction management role, ideally with project management/support experience, team leadership.
  • Solid ability to interact with internal and external stakeholders with evidence of willingness and ability to express and protect departmental interests.
  • Ability to apply strong problem-solving skills.
  • Proven effective communicator and writer, able to tailor message to receiving audience.
  • Experience handling multiple million/billion dollar projects simultaneously.
  • Experience with data/system management, analysis and reporting tools
  • Demonstrated experience using MS Project Office Professional and MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio.
  • OSHA training background, preferred but not required.
