Reporting to the Vice President of Communications for RMS, the communications lead for the Sikorsky (SAC) line of business (LOB) serves as the single point of contact for the LOB VP and is accountable for setting the communications strategy for the LOB including internal and external stakeholders, employee engagement, media relations, government relations, crisis communications and providing strategic communications advice and counsel to the SAC President and Senior Leadership Team.

This role is responsible for comprehensive communications planning for all major programs and capability areas within this $6B portfolio, which includes several key defense and commercial programs and capability areas such as Future Vertical Lift, CH-53K, Black Hawk, Black Hawk Modernization, Combat Rescue Helicopter, Sikorsky Innovations, Canadian Maritime Helicopter and Turkey Utility Helicopter Programs, S-92 and FireHawk.

This role has a dotted-line relationship to the Sikorsky LOB VP and is a member of both the Sikorsky LOB and functional leadership teams. There is a requirement to attend all appropriate briefings and business strategy meetings with the goal of developing and implementing comprehensive communications strategies. Management of the Sikorsky LOB VP's internal and executive speaking engagements, drafting remarks, talking points, regular employee engagement activities and social media channels are also requirements. This position leads a team of approximately 10 communicators tied to the Sikorsky LOB, who work across multiple locations and oversee site communications and community relations activities for approximately 12K employees, including Connecticut, Poland, Florida, New York, Alabama, and Texas.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree with minimum of 10 years of communications experience in strategic communications, including media relations, advertising, employee communications, executive communications, and integrated communications
  • Strong understanding of the broad range of tools, processes and practices of communications, advertising, event planning and employee engagement
  • The candidate must be a motivated self-starter with broad communications experience
  • Proven leadership experience and ability to manage a large team of communicators, prioritizing talent development and embodying Full Spectrum Leadership capabilities
  • Experience working with public affairs offices (e.g. Navy, Army, Missile Defense Agency)
  • Experience interacting with all levels of the organization including counseling senior executives
  • Experience cultivating working relationship with LOB and program leaders, as well as with Corporate and Enterprise Communications teams
  • Exceptional writing, editing and oral communications skills with the ability to convey information in clear, compelling ways
  • Ability to travel up to 25%
Desired Skills:
  • Knowledge of defense industry, and Lockheed Martin business, as well as general product knowledge
  • Prefer a communications generalist with broad range of experience in a variety of communications disciplines
  • Experience managing leaders, preferably those who lead program communications
  • Crisis communications / issues management experience
  • Experience managing executive communications
  • Strong work ethic and positive, can-do attitude
  • Quick study with an attention to detail and sense of urgency

Ability to Work Remotely: Full-time Remote Telework: The employee selected for this position will work remotely full time at a location other than a Lockheed Martin designated office/job site. Employees may travel to a Lockheed Martin office for periodic meetings.
Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: 4x10 hour day, 3 days off per week
Pay Rate:
The annual base salary range for this position in Colorado or Washington is $180,000 - $300,000 . Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.

(Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full time employees: accrue 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO); receive 40 hours of Granted PTO annually for incidental absences; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of PTO per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO is prorated based on hours worked and start date during the calendar year.

This position is incentive plan eligible.
