Job description
- The Infant Toddler Child Care Specialist (ITCCS) works with childcare providers to plan and implement quality improvement within their childcare program, with a specialty in infants, toddlers and two-year-olds. The ITCCS works as part of the Child Care Resource and Referral Team to improve the quality of care in programs throughout our service area by providing on-site consultation and technical assistance, by collaborating with providers via phone, email, virtually and in-person, and by providing trainings to assist providers in their personal growth as care givers and educators.
Summary of Job Duties:
- Provide consultation, technical assistance and training to providers who have achieved an ExceleRate Illinois Quality Recognition & Improvement System (QRIS) Circle of Quality and those interested in learning more about QRIS.
- Offer resources and information to childcare providers in person, via phone &/or email.
- Assist in facilitating cohorts by providing training, technical assistance, reflective practice, and consultation.
- Work in partnership with providers and other specialists to jointly assess and identify a program’s needs and concerns within the six (6) county service area: McHenry, DeKalb, Lee, Ogle, Whiteside and Carroll.
- Maintain documentation of the contract-related activities through a specified data recording system.
- Upon hire, the Specialist receives detailed training on specific classroom and program assessment tools, in which a score threshold is required. ITCCS will use this knowledge in assisting childcare providers with self-assessment and developing continuous quality improvement plans.
- Complete a minimum of 15 professional development training hours and other trainings as required for the position.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of a bachelor's degree in Early Childhood, Child Development or related field OR a Bachelor’s Degree in one of the following related fields: child psychology/behavioral sciences, family consumer science, social work, elementary education, child welfare, family services, psychology, sociology, human development AND a minimum of 18 hours in early childhood coursework;
- 5 years of experience working in a licensed child care program with 2 of those years working directly with infants and toddlers.
- Knowledge of infant toddler development, and quality child care indicators. (ITERS knowledge is not required, although nice to have.)
- Candidate must hold the Gateways to Opportunity ECE Level 5 and ITC Level 4 credentials OR have the ability to complete within 18 months of employment:
*NOTE: if applicant does not currently hold these Gateways Credentials, they should apply to the INCCRRA Credential Department immediately so it can be determined how close they are to meeting the requirements.
- Other attributes include strong communication and organizational skills, ability to adapt to a variety of situations, multitask, and possess a compassionate and empathic nature.
Working Conditions:
- Must possess a current Illinois Driver’s License and reliable transportation.
- Travel to and participate in meetings, committees, statewide training activities and professional development opportunities appropriate to the role.
- Frequent travel to child care programs for on-site visits throughout our six (6) county service area.
- This is a field base position.
- Occasional evening and weekend work and overnight travel to professional conferences required.
