NEW JOB: RESEARCH ASSOCIATE 1-CHEMIST-

Location: Modesto, CA

Shift: Day Monday-Friday 8am-5pm and Saturday 7am-12pm

Temp position/Possible 6-month Plus

Pay: $28 to $40/hour DOE

  • Must be proficient calibrating and use of GC/MS for this role with work experience over 2-3 years.

Summary

  • Performs routine and non-routine chemical and physical analysis of alcoholic beverages, grape products, drinking water, wastewater, incoming materials, and other related materials pertaining to the operation of the winery while observing the department's safety practices, work procedures, and quality system requirements.


Essential Functions

  • This job description reflects management’s assignment of essential functions; it does not prescribe or restrict the tasks that may be assigned.

    • Develops an in-depth understanding and knowledge of wine, grape, and water chemistry and of relevant analytical and chemical techniques.

    • Functions as a member of one or more project teams.

    • Participates in instrument troubleshooting and maintenance.

    • Optimizes existing analytical methodology and supports the development of new methodology using appropriate validation techniques.

    • Maintains satisfactory attendance, to include timeliness.

    • Responsible for understanding and complying with applicable quality, environmental and safety regulatory considerations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or State-issued equivalency certificate.

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Food Science, Biochemistry or Fermentation Science.

  • Candidates for this position must have a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record. Required to obtain a California driver’s license or appropriate state driver’s license within 30 days of hire.

  • Required to non-traditional and extended hours during harvest.

  • Required to lift and move up to 50 pounds.

  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, Chemistry, Bio-Chemistry, Fermentation Science or Food Science plus 2 years of wine, food, pharmaceutical or environmental laboratory experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility; or Master of Science degree in Chemistry, Bio-Chemistry, Food Science plus 1 years of wine, food, pharmaceutical or environmental laboratory experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility.

  • Experience using advanced laboratory instrumentation including IC, GC, GC/MS, HPLC, LC/MS, GPC and FTIR.

  • Experience reading, analyzing, and interpreting general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

  • Experience writing reports, business correspondence, and work procedures.

  • Experience presenting information and responding to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

  • Skilled in the use of MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access and MS PowerPoint at a basic level.

  • Knowledge of laboratory quality requirements including EPA, ELAP and ISO 17025 standards.

  • Skilled in working with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.

  • Skilled in applying concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

  • Experience solving practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

  • Experience interpreting a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

  • Knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures in this area of specialization.

  • Strong leadership skills.

  • Experience working effectively in cross-functional teams.
