Analyst – Chemical Engineer (Winter 2022)

Roles and responsibilities
As an Analyst, you will work in teams of 2-4, along with Partners and Associates to work on engineering, business, and strategy projects for our synthetic biology clients. This is a high visibility and high-impact role, and you will work closely with clients and the Hawkwood Engineering team to support our clients’ commercialization efforts.
The Analyst role is an entry-level position in the Engineering practice, and will involve:
- Supporting the development of process flowsheets and techno-economic models for the commercialization of bioprocess technologies. This includes process modeling and simulation; techno-economic modeling and analysis using modeling tools, such as Excel, Aspen Plus, SuperPro, Excel, or other modeling tools.
- Supporting the development of technology transfer package
- Supporting scale-up activities, and pilot and demonstration campaigns
- Gathering inputs for building models by interacting with clients, equipment manufacturers, vendors, and technology solution providers
Additionally, you will get exposure to the Silicon Valley startup-venture capital ecosystem by working on technical and business due diligence projects, as well as strategy and business development projects for our VC clients.
This is a hybrid position (up to 30% remote) based in San Francisco, California.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
- Bachelor’s (preferred) or master’s degree in chemical, bioprocess, or biochemical engineering
- 0 – 2 years of experience working in the chemical/biotech/bioprocess industry in a technical role
- Strong interest in biotechnology and consulting
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Exceptional problem solving, analytical and critical thinking skills
- High level of motivation and initiative
- Demonstrated success as a collaborative team player
- Entrepreneurial mindset and ability to thrive in a complex and dynamic environment
- Flexibility to travel
- Previous experience with process modeling with SuperPro, Aspen or similar software would be a plus
- Proficiency with Excel would be highly preferred
