Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Pharmacist/PIC, the Pharmacy Technician will be responsible for the overall coordination and processing of new patient medication orders and reorders. This individual works with both internal and external customers to ensure that orders are processed in a timely manner and meet all financial and clinical requirements prior to fulfillment. The Pharmacy Technician is responsible for answering incoming calls/completing outbound calls to/from patients, physicians and pharmacists.

- Practices within scope of licensure and maintains active license
- Maintains inventory levels and expiration dates within acceptable standards
- Responsible for ensuring that products and services which are delivered have complete and appropriate documentation, client education and business paperwork
- Utilizes effective written/verbal communications
- Complies with all federal, state and local regulatory agencies regarding the operation of the pharmacy
- Operates and maintains pharmacy related equipment
- Performs data and prescription entry including insurance information
- Demonstrates consciousness of actions in quality and accuracy of work, being honest and forthright about all work-related information
- Maintains a clean, neat and orderly work area; aseptic technique
- Follows policies and procedures for the organization and department
- Accurately and promptly fills prescriptions to be checked by a Pharmacist
- Assists in clinic and patient support functions that may include insurance benefits verification, prior authorization management, compliance/adherence services or other clerical or administrative functions
- Never offers prescription information; always refers drug therapy questions to the Pharmacist
- Recognizes the accurate dispensing of patient medications as the number one priority
- Participates in personal professional growth and development; participates in all mandatory inservices and continuing education programs
- Displays professionalism in voice, demeanor, mannerism, dress, etc. Observes proper professional and courteous telephone technique
- Actively participates with suggestions for improvement
- Positively accepts constructive criticism or suggestions from management. Willingly accepts direction and delegation; recognizes, understands and utilizes chain of command. Resolves conflict
in a constructive manner
- Informs the Pharmacist of patient comments and complaints
- Attends minimum of four (4) hours of in-service and training during year
- Maintain established productivity and quality assessment percentage for position
- Other job relevant tasks as requested and necessary
- Participates in quality improvement activities with fifteen percent (15%) of overall responsibilities are dedicated to Quality Management
- Develops and maintains knowledge regarding standards for accreditation for URAC as required for the position
- Participates in Staff Committee, as requested.
- Performs additional assigned responsibilities as necessary

Qualifications:
To be successful in this role, the individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative, but not all-inclusive, of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required as the Pharmacy Technician.
Education/Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) equivalent or higher. Pharmacy Technician registration issued by the state of employment. Minimum one (1) year experience preferred. Experience in retail pharmacy and/or insurance/healthcare background preferred. Familiar with standard concepts, practices and procedures within a dispensing pharmacy.
Licensing/Specialized Skills:
- Registered Pharmacy Technician in the state of employment
- Detail oriented with ability to handle multiple tasks with frequent interruption
- Ability to adapt in a dynamic work environment, learn quickly, solve problems and make decisions
- Ability to stay focused and productive though tasks may be repetitive
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule for peak times ● Good customer service skills required
Computer/Technical Skills:
- Familiarity with computer and Windows PC applications, which includes the ability to learn new and complex computer system application
- Digital dexterity e.g. use of computer keyboard
- Knowledge of computer programs
- Telephone skills
Physical and Mental Requirements:
- Individuals may need to stand for excessive amounts of time. Reaching above shoulder heights, below the waist or lifting product or moving materials throughout the workday.
- Travel requirements of this position include; local, domestic travel on occasions to attend or provide training sessions.
- Primary environment: ambient room temperatures, lighting and traditional office equipment as found in a typical retail pharmacy environment.
