Position: Manager, Prospect Intelligence
Location: Based in New York City Headquarters, but flexible
FLSA Status: Exempt
Salary: The estimated salary range for this position is $65,300 - $70,000. This midpoint for the salary grade is $81,600. Actual pay will vary based on various factors, including but not limited to relevant experience.
Position Description:
UNICEF USA seeks a Manager, Prospect Intelligence, to build the organization’s prospect pipeline through proactive and reactive prospect research on individuals, foundations, corporations, and other organizations. Reporting to the Deputy Director, Prospect Intelligence, the ideal candidate will provide strategic insight to prospect managers as they engage, solicit, and steward partners and prospects to maximize philanthropic outcomes for the organization. The Manager will collaborate laterally with the Philanthropy Insight team and with prospect managers based across the United States to support our ambitious divisional revenue goal.
Key Responsibilities & Outcomes (include but are not limited to):
Proactive (45%)
· Identify individual prospects for all fundraising teams via daily alerts, datamining techniques, and project-based prospecting consistent with standards outlined in Apra’s Body of Knowledge and current philanthropic trends using biographic and financial subscription databases and online resources
· Support daily review of recent donors to identify new leads, completing basic research and pushing out assignments to fundraisers
· Complete proactive vetting research in accordance with UUSA’s due diligence policy
· Present actionable prospect strategy recommendations during all phases of the cultivation cycle, in both written and verbal communications
· Determine appropriate assignment fit among prospect manager portfolios
Reactive (40%)
· Conduct strategic, streamlined reactive research using biographic and financial subscription databases and online resources
· Support on event and travel preparation and research briefings as needed
· Conduct strategic, streamlined reactive research, consistent with standards outlined in Apra’s Body of Knowledge and current philanthropic trends using biographic and financial subscription databases and online resources
· Assess capacity ratings using publicly available financial assets and wealth indicators
· Update data in CRM for research requests and biographic data
Fundraiser Partnership (15%)
· · Liaise with designated fundraising teams, which may include Major Gifts, Institutional, Planned Giving, Principal Gifts, and others; serve as a trusted advisor, advocate, and subject matter expert on client needs
· · Participate in regular pipeline and prospect strategy meetings with clients
· · Lead trainings for fundraising staff in best practices for donor research
· Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree with five years of relevant work experience; three years non-profit prospect research experience preferred
- Strong client services-oriented approach and desire to build strong partnerships with colleagues
- Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills
- Ability to exercise good judgment in balancing deadlines, prioritizing multiple projects
- Scrupulous attention to matters of discretion and confidentiality required; ability to handle highly sensitive information appropriately and maintain confidentiality with donor information; knowledge of and adherence to ethics statements by Apra, the Association for Advancement Services Professionals (aasp), the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), and other related associations
· Mastery of Apra’s Body of Knowledge Prospect Research domain and working knowledge of the Relationship Management domain
· Ability to think strategically, creatively, and analytically and desire to innovate
- Passion for UNICEF’s mission and intellectual curiosity about UNICEF’s complex programmatic work
· Must exhibit and consistently develop behaviors in alignment with the UUSA Competency Model, particularly those associated with the Manager level
