About the Department: The Building Maintenance Department provides physical support, custodial and maintenance services to over 40 different county-owned facilities and several county offices located in leased areas comprising over 700,000 square feet of building space. Among other responsibilities, department staff ensure building safety and the optimal performance of building systems by providing preventive maintenance and repair of mechanical, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, building security systems and interior/exterior repairs and renovations. ABOUT OUR OPPORTUNITY
We invite you to apply to join our team as a full-time (40 hours per week), non-exempt Building Technician for county facilities . The purpose of this position is to perform multiple skilled trades to include electrical, mechanical, plumbing, carpentry, locksmithing; including high security door locking system, HVAC and technical trades associated in the repair and maintenance of multiple county owned and leased facilities, providing a safe and comfortable environment for both employees and the public. This position works to set procedures under limited supervision and serves on call 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Requires driving ability.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Troubleshoots, repairs and replaces high security folger adams door security locking system.
Inspects and maintains fire alarm systems, door security and emergency lighting.
Services and maintains plumbing systems and fixtures.
Services and maintains electrical systems and high/low voltage control panels.
Performs maintenance on HVAC equipment.
Performs multiple levels of construction and carpentry work.
Assembles or moves office equipment and furnishings.
Services and maintains commercial/residential kitchen and laundry equipment.
Utilizes man-lifts to repair or install exterior lighting.
Performs general groundskeeping work as required.

Other Duties:
Performs monthly inspections on elevators, fire extinguishers, emergency lighting, carbon monoxide detectors.
Attends meetings and training seminars necessary to maintain and enhance job knowledge and skills.
May supervise and direct work assignments of inmates or trustees while in the Detention Center or Prison.
Operates a vehicle, trucks, forklifts, aerial lifts, tools associated with the various trades.
ABOUT YOU

ABOUT YOU - Education and Experience Requirements:
High School Diploma or equivalency and two (3) of related experience.

Certifications:
CJIS Certification (Criminal Justice Information System).
Valid Driver's License
Certification in High Security Detention Equipment and Technology (security locks)
Certification in Aerial Boom lift (manlift)
County Driver's Training Recertification
Forklift Certification
Blood Borne Pathogens Training

Applicants with equivalent experience and/or education may be considered

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities/Attributes: Knowledge:
Knowledge of multiple trades of the construction and maintenance field; electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, welding, and HVAC and refrigeration.
Knowledge of operation of boilers, chillers, chill-water and hot-water pumps, heat pumps, gas pack systems.
Knowledge of local and state rules, regulations and laws in regard to building codes & fire/life safety codes/requirements.
Knowledge of the organizations' policies, procedures and protocols.

Skills, Abilities/Attributes:
Ability to speak the language/jargon of the various maintenance trades.
Ability to utilize office computer, laptop computer or iPhone.
Ability to read building plans/prints or schematics.
Ability to utilize the various tools and equipment pertaining to the maintenance field.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Ability to operate fire alarm, fire suppression and security systems.
Ability to prioritize work requests.
Ability to perform duties in hostile and potentially life-threatening environment (Detention Center & Prison).
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

PHYSICAL AND DEXTERITY REQUIREMENTS:
Requires work involving sitting, tasting or smelling under 1/3 of the time; standing, walking, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling, talking or hearing 1/3 to 2/3 of the time; gripping or feeling with hands, reaching with hands and arms over 2/3 of the time; and lifting more than 100 pounds under 1/3 of the time.

VISION REQUIREMENTS:
Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less), Distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more), Color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors), Peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up or down or to the left and right when vision is fixed on a given point), Depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships), Ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus).

POTENTIAL ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS/HAZARDS:
The job may risk exposure to indoor environment, outdoor environment, noise, extreme temperatures, vibration, moisture and/or humidity, dust, fumes, gases, poor ventilation, electrical hazards, mechanical hazards, chemical hazards, explosive hazards, burn hazards, potential for violence/physical altercations, working around detainees within the Detention Center and inmates within the Prison (potential bodily harm), potential exposure to blood borne pathogens and tuberculosis working in medical areas at Detention Center, Prison and York County Health Department, potential exposure to diseases and contaminants at the County Animal Shelter.
