Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine (WMed) seeks a Body Donation Program and Medical Education Coordinator. Reporting to the Pathology Faculty/Director of the Body Donation Program, independently manages and coordinates the Graduate Medical Education and Body Donation Program for the medical school.
Responsibilities:
Body Donation Program:
- Communicate with potential donors, donor families, and the public.
- Maintain the database for the administration and archiving of interested, registered, and current body donors and all associated data.
- Handle administrative needs for the Body Donor Program.
- Assist in the Management, maintenance, and coordination of donor resources for learning and research.
- Maintenance of the WMed skeletal series and new accessions.
- Assist in the coordination and planning of the Annual WMed Donor Remembrance Ceremony.
- Assist in the coordination and planning of the WMed Donor Internment Ceremony at Mountain Home Cemetery.
Medical Education:
- Handle administrative needs for the BioSkills Lab.
- Coordination of all graduate level courses and events.
- Coordination of research projects for undergraduate and graduate medical students.
- Coordinate any maintenance and/or repairs necessary for equipment in the BioSkills Laboratory.
- Facilitate installation of new resources in the BioSkills Laboratory.
- Coordinate clinical and community faculty for advanced training and research.
- At times may be responsible for cleaning bodily fluids and/or other spills from body donor resources outside of department.
- Availability to work on weekends and evenings to complete time sensitive projects.
- Acquires knowledge for new technology and policy/procedure revisions.
- All other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- Associate's degree required, bachelor's degree preferred.
- Knowledge of human anatomy required.
- Knowledge of medical terminology required.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
- Willingness to learn new techniques and adapt to changing curriculum requirements.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Familiarity with relational databases.
- Ability to act with tact, diplomacy and discretion.
- Ability to manage confidential information in a professional manner and use sound judgment at all times.
- Ability to work independently in a dynamic environment with changing priorities and multiple responsibilities.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, and develop and shift priorities to meet deadlines.

WMed Health is the clinical practice of the medical school with more than 300 providers offering comprehensive primary care and specialty services in several locations throughout Kalamazoo, Portage, and Battle Creek. The Department of Pathology faculty serve as the Office of the Medical Examiner for counties throughout Michigan and northern Indiana.
The W.E. Upjohn M.D. Campus located in downtown Kalamazoo serves as the primary educational facility with faculty and administrative offices, student study and social spaces, team-based learning halls, a state-of-the-art Simulation Center accredited by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare, basic science research labs, as well as toxicology and forensic pathology labs.
