Summary:
Goldbelt C6, LLC is seeking a Behavioral Health Scientist to work within the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, Influenza Division, Epidemiology and Prevention Branch. This position will sit in the Field Site Support Team acting as a liaison between the Behavioral Health Scientist to support the Measles, Rubella, CMV (MeRC) Team within the Viral Vaccine-Preventable Diseases Branch (VVPDB). This position coordinates and participates in behavioral research on MMR immunization, including conducting needs assessments, designing, implementing, and evaluating interventions, and generating recommendations for scale-up.
- Research & Reporting Participates in the design and implementation of behavioral research and programmatic work, including structural, community, and individual level interventions, that are designed to increase vaccine acceptance and demand.
- Conducts lit reviews from relevant disciplines and develops research protocols, quantitative and qualitative data collection instruments, data analysis plan, and reports.
- Responsible for establishing the appropriate research literature and approaches pertinent to the tasks assigned.
- Prepares original scientific research papers and literature reviews dealing with behavioral issues as they impact upon vaccine demand and acceptance, for publication in scientific journals.
- Leads development of reports and publications based on results from behavioral research and programmatic projects, disseminates results to major stakeholders, and recommends actions for scale-up.
- Technical Supervises and provides guidance to a data manager in the creation, maintenance, and organization of data-management and analysis systems.
- Formulates and analyzes social, behavioral, and epidemiologic quantitative and qualitative data with the assistance of statistical software packages.
- Conducts or supervises the management and analysis of complex qualitative and quantitative data.
- Methodological responsibilities include determination of appropriate sampling methods, development of quantitative and qualitative data collection instruments and techniques, and coding of variables.
- Collaboration Coordinate with medical officers, behavioral and health scientists, health educators, epidemiologists, and staff to design and evaluate tailored interventions to increase demand for vaccination among priority groups.
- Works effectively with project staff, community representatives, and other scientists to identify needs of the target groups, identify, design, and implement appropriate, tailored interventions, and design and implement evaluation instruments.
- Collaborates with governmental and non-governmental agencies or organizations and other relevant stakeholders to conduct implementation science research and incorporate research into improving programming to increase demand for vaccination.
Necessary Skills and Knowledge:
- Exceptional qualitative analysis with experience creating databases, analyzing data, and converting info into formal research reports.
- Proficient with writing public health reports and/or manuscripts for internal and external audiences, partners, and stakeholders.
- Experience working with research and methods focused on community and local healthcare workers, program administrators, and other stakeholders in the health system more generally.
- Previous design and development of initiatives (research and non-research), protocol development, data management and analysis, and data distribution to stakeholders, and publication of scientific articles.
- Coordination and management of impactful behavioral projects, guidelines, trainings, and technical consultation to assist intervention programs for state and local health departments.
- Skilled in investigating various health issues facing a subset of the population and develop programs that combat the root cause of those issues.
- Experience developing analytic plans for programmatic recommendations to improve vaccine hesitancy. Proficient with statistical software such as SAS, SPSS, Stata, NVIVO, and Dedoose.
- Ability to demonstrate diplomacy and work professionally with highly educated scientific customer base in fast-paced environment.
- Great judgment and decision making, with strong analytical skills; business intuition and business acumen.
- Excellent written and verbal communication in interpersonal exchanges.
- Capable of working cross-functionally throughout branches and within division.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Behavioral Science, Psychology, Sociology, Public Health, or related field.
- 5 – 8 years of sufficient qualitative field work in public health.
- Must be able to travel about 25% domestically.
- Must be able to provide report and manuscript writing samples.
- Must be local to Atlanta and will be working on-site at CDC Roybal Campus.
Preferred Qualifications:
- PhD in Behavioral Science, Psychology, Sociology, Public Health, or related field.
- 8+ years of sufficient qualitative field work in public health Prior work with state and local health departments on behavioral health topics.
