Job Summary:
This position will entail providing a full range of services to students who need support surrounding behavior and academics. As key members of our support team, the successful candidates will partner with school administrators and teachers to develop and implement plans that provide specialized support for Anne Arundel County Public Schools students.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist teaching team with student behaviors throughout the school day, provide 1-1 and group instructional supports (basic interventions to help them complete work, stay on task, etc.), aid the student in daily functions such as checking into the program, participating in daily academics, escorting around the program, and dismissal.
- Work directly to support an individual student’s academic and behavioral needs based on his/her Individual Education Plan (IEP), as well as other individualized contracts/interventions.
- Adapts classroom activities, assignments and/or materials under the direction of the supervising teacher for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing classroom objectives and meeting IEP goals.
- Provides, under the supervision of assigned teacher, instruction to the student in a variety of individual and group activities for the purpose of reinforcing instructional objectives; implementing IEP plans; and ensuring the student’s access to his/her least restrictive environment.
- Required to be willing and able to work with students whom require individual behavioral supports which could require physical intervention which may include periods of standing/sitting/kneeling; escorting students to a safe location during a behavioral event; lifting, carrying, pulling, or holding weights from 40 pounds and up.
- Communicates student meeting outcomes and assists with the development of intervention strategies direct assistance in the use of equipment, learning objects, and materials needed for student success
- Make appropriate referrals to other campus and community resources as needed.
- Gather, analyze, and maintain data and notes to determine student progress towards attendance, academic, and behavior.
- Gathers and shares pertinent information about program activity with school stakeholders and team members at Attendance, SST, IEP, or MTSS meetings.
- Implements the Home Visit Framework and conducts Home Visits for chronically absent and truant students.
- Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science or Arts from an accredited 4-year university or college in Psychology, Social Work,
Education, or related field
- Experience working with school-aged children
- Strong organizational skills
- Proficiency in using web-based applications
- Proficiency with school- and home-based student support systems and programs
- Availability to work on weekends and evenings, if needed
- Strong written and communication skills
- Ability to maintain case files and confidential information
