About the Role: We are looking for an experienced, project-oriented, Automation Controls Engineer to join our Engineering team as part of our Core Technology Division. In this role, you will work on projects to add new equipment, modify existing equipment to improve yield, reliability, etc, and support daily operations through troubleshooting; both as a project leader and core team member. The ideal candidate will be passionate about gaining deep technical expertise while also helping coach and mentor teammates.

This position will be located at our facility in Elkton, Maryland, with work from home days possible as part of a hybrid arrangement, depending upon the responsibilities of the role and business needs.*

Responsibilities:
  • Lead and work with cross-functional project teams to modify/upgrade existing equipment, add new manufacturing equipment, and support equipment needs for R&D
  • Perform electrical design and hands-on support for process equipment (e.g. drives, programmable logic controller [PLC] logic programming, human-machine interfaces [HMIs], wiring schematics, instrumentation, and motor control systems)
  • Understand and provide input to the asset life cycle and obsolescence strategy
  • Work closely with suppliers and contractors on the design, purchase, and installation of new equipment
  • Create and update electrical schematics, specifications, software, and documentation
  • Develop and complete process equipment validations and documentation including the use of Core Technology Quality Systems
  • Support skilled trades with breakdowns and troubleshooting of existing equipment

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited school or related degree (Electromechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Electromechanical Engineering Technology)
  • A minimum of three years of experience working in a manufacturing environment or as a systems integrator with hands on experience with industrial control systems (PLC, HMI, drives, and industrial networks)
  • Experience developing and modifying electrical schematics
  • Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and machine safety practices
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and communicate technical ideas and concepts with technical and non-technical audiences (written and verbal)
  • Ability to lead, prioritize, and complete multiple technical projects and daily tasks while working within and influencing a cross-functional team
  • Ability to travel 5-10% based on project needs (U.S., Europe, Asia, etc)

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with web handling equipment, including motor drive control systems
  • Understanding of piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID)
