POSITION TITLE: Automation Applications Engineer
REPORTS TO: Engineering Manager
BASIC FUNCTION: Collaborate with our Engineering and Sales teams to provide solutions for a wide variety of automation and motion control applications. Provide application engineering support and electrical expertise for staff or customers. Problem solve and develop custom solutions for customers.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
- Develop and design automated systems for industrial, mobile, and marine applications.
- Develop prototypes and build product mockups per customer specification.
- Direct involvement with DE sales team and customers to understand electrical components, product and/or equipment requirements.
- Assist sales personnel in creating presentations that showcase DE products, services, and capabilities.
- Design and develop unique tooling and/or custom equipment to meet customers’ specifications.
- Trouble-shoot products and systems both internally and at customer job sites. Conduct product inspections, tests, or repairs as needed.
- Commission and start up systems at customer’s location as needed.
- Maintain functional knowledge of current hydraulic, pneumatic, and electronic controls technology.
- Assist staff with CAD drawing support for quotes or installations.
- Provide price quotes, order information, and technical information to customers and/or sales staff.
- Track, report, and communicate sales and/or purchase order status with any audiences.
- Process and manage returned goods and/or repair orders as needed.
- Learn and maintain a working knowledge of DE line card products and their applications.
- Learn and maintain a working knowledge of DE software: Solomon, TDF, and others.
- Assemble parts and/or components into finished assemblies per sales specification.
- Follow company policy and procedure with respect to systems, practices, and information sharing.
- Manage and/or complete special projects as assigned.
- Make recommendations and suggestions that promote continuous improvement.
REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:
- A 4-year technical degree is preferred, Engineering and/or Business. Automation, Electrical, Mechanical, Process, and other technical backgrounds are all applicable.
- Applicable industrial CAD experience required.
- Experience with general machine shop equipment (lathe, mill, drill press, hand tools).
- Experience in motion control and/or electrical are preferred.
- Strong mechanical aptitude is preferred.
- Ability to work independently with organizational skills, time management, and prioritization.
- Solid communication and teamwork skills.
- Working knowledge of MS Office software products.
LOCATION & SCHEDULE
- Daily work site is primarily Grand Haven. Some Grand Rapids office or customer site locations.
- Specific hours and days are flexible and negotiable; schedule to be coordinated with workload under the direction of the Engineering Dept. Manager.
COMPENSATION:
- Position is full-time with very competitive wage and benefits.
- Work tools provided if/when specific duties require: laptop, cell phone, etc.
- Mileage reimbursement provided from DE office when personal vehicle is used.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $55,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
