Master’s Degree in Social Work. Valid Social Work license (LSW or LISW) through the State of Ohio preferred. Valid ODE School Social Worker License or Registration is required.

Demonstrated knowledge of Ohio attendance laws.

Demonstrated experience working with families in poverty and working with culturally and linguistically diverse populations.

Serves as a liaison between the school and the community to increase student attendance rates.

Provides targeted follow-up with parents/guardians to mitigate issues impacting attendance.

Serves as a school representative with the court system in reference to student attendance and attends Judicial Court in attendance cases, in collaboration with the district school social worker representative.

Collaborate with the School Social Worker, School Counselor and other school staff to identify and address underlying student needs which may be contributing to absenteeism

Understands and directs school personnel according to CPS Attendance Policy.

Responsible for monitoring and improving attendance percentages.

Analyzes data to identify student absentee patterns.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Description
Attendance School Social Worker
Cincinnati Public Schools is seeking qualified applicants for the position of School Social Worker. School Social Workers bring unique knowledge and skills to the school system. School Social Workers coordinate and provide social services for students of all ages and socioeconomic backgrounds. They are trained in mental health, Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS), Social and Emotional Learning (SEL), truancy prevention, and classroom interventions. Services are provided in accordance with the philosophy, mission, standards, policies, and procedures of Cincinnati Public Schools. School Social Workers are instrumental in furthering the mission of the district, which is to provide a setting for teaching, learning and attaining competence and confidence in addition to working with pupils who are experiencing difficulty with school adjustment.
Position Summary: The Attendance School Social Worker monitors school attendance and works with school administrators, students, parents, and the school support team with a focus on keeping students in school, improving student and school attendance rates and educating staff and families. The position will work closely with teachers to ensure attendance is appropriately taken and reported to the office.
