ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF JAZZ VOICE (Tenure Track)

JOB DESCRIPTION

TYPE: FULL-TIME (9-month)

RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach solo jazz voice to undergraduate majors; teach courses in beginning, intermediate or advanced vocal improvisation; direct vocal jazz ensemble(s), teach vocal arranging (for solo voice w/rhythm, as well as vocal ensemble), advise undergraduate jazz voice majors; assist with recruitment activities and auditions; and fulfill faculty expectations associated with traditional university appointments. (scholarly activity, professional development, committee participation, service to the university and the community at large etc...)

APPOINTMENT BEGINS: August 16, 2023

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master of Music; artist-level performance in jazz voice including vocal improvisation (scat singing); proficient piano or keyboard skills; advanced knowledge of vocal pedagogy; demonstrated success in teaching jazz courses at the college or secondary level; evidence of effective oral and written communication skills.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Intermediate to advanced piano skills (jazz and traditional); proficiency in operating sound reinforcement equipment; vocal and/or instrumental jazz arranging experience (ensemble and solo voice with instrumental combo), proficiency in music technology (music notation software, recording experience – use of logic or protools - including editing and mixing; ability to teach jazz theory.

Salary Range: Commiserate with market value and candidate’s experience

Notes About the Candidate Review Process: Applications will be accepted through April 9, 2023. After all processes are complete according to the procedures outlined in the HU Faculty Handbook, a formal offer will be made and, if accepted, your application will be advanced to the stage of hire. You can expect the process to take at least 12 weeks (about 3 months). This position has an anticipated start date in August 2023.
