Position Summary
The Assistant Production Manager position plans, organizes and controls production for the assigned shift to ensure that parts are produced efficiently, on time, within budget and to standard. Responsible for providing training and facilitating process improvements as needed to ensure World Class Manufacturing.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage and supervise production employees in a production environment.
- Manages the complete shift with Area Leaders, Team Leaders, and direct production employees.
- Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems; interviewing, hiring, and training employees; appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees.
- Oversee shift production, maintenance, materials and quality groups making sure that products are produced on time and are of good quality. Escalating to proper staff when needed per escalation policy
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; Gathers and analyzes information skillfully; Develops alternative solutions; Works well in group problem solving situations; Uses reason even when dealing with emotional topics.
- Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness; Looks for ways to improve and promote quality; Applies feedback to improve performance; Monitors own work to ensure quality. Create and maintain a world class standard for quality workmanship.
Education and Required Skills/Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Degree in business administration, management, engineering, industrial technology or related field preferred, or combination of education and experience.
- Ability to problem solve.
- Intermediate computer skills required.
- Ability to communicate with others, both verbal and written.
- Able to prepare, read, write and interpret reports, instructions, procedures and business correspondence.
- Able to clearly and effectively respond to questions from management, employees, suppliers and customers.
- Able to manage and schedule multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

Additional Information
Under the general direction of the Production Manager, the Assistant Production Manager works independently and confers regularly with inside and outside contacts to ensure successful implementation of programs & projects. Travel may be required with occasional overnight accommodation at various locations. Overtime may be required to meet program expectations. The Assistant Production Manager may be exposed to elements such as temperature and noise during time spent in the plant or at customer or supplier facilities. Ability to obtain and retain a valid passport is required.
