Job Description
The Assistant Editor, under general supervision, oversees course and manuscript review and provides editing skills to ensure proper grammar, clarity, organization, style, and format consistency.
Responsibilities:
  • Manage projects by setting due dates and overseeing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Edits and proofreads publications, proposals, manuals, and other materials for grammar, spelling, punctuation, coherence, clarity, and style.
  • Edits content per the in-house AgriLife Digital Education Style Guide.
  • Collaborates and communicates with authors, reviewers, and designers to coordinate all phases of publication production or the review phase of course production.
  • Fact-checks written content for accuracy and correctness.
  • Evaluates written content for coherence and audience appropriateness.
  • Uses designated software applications to track the status of assigned projects to ensure work stays on schedule and meets deadlines.
  • Formats and edits materials according to web accessibility (ADA compliance) requirements.
  • Prepares factsheet publications for layout using Adobe InDesign.
  • References APA Style guide standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two years of related experience in writing, editing, proofreading, and updating electronic content.
Preferred Education and Experience:
-Experience developing WCAG- and 508-compliant materials.
  • Experience with Adobe InDesign and InCopy.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously with general supervision.
  • Ability to copy edit and/or proofread per APA Style or in-house guidelines.
