CLASS DESCRIPTION
The Office of Legal Affairs of the Fire and Police Employees’ Retirement System of the City of Baltimore is seeking applicants for an attorney position to represent the Retirement System. This position would assist the Associate General Counsel and General Counsel in rendering legal advice to the Board of Trustees of the Fire & Police Employees’ Retirement System, including throughout the disability process and in administrative disability hearings and appeals.
Minimum requirement for this position is membership in the Maryland Bar.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of the pertinent Federal, State and Local laws and statutes.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective, collaborative working relationships with others (inside and outside the Agency).
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines while handling multiple tasks.
- Ability to maintain professionalism under pressure.
- A strong sense of ownership of tasks and responsibilities.
- Excellent interpersonal skills required to work with the public and various agencies.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Legal Research platforms.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally, and in writing.
- Prepare legal documents, and provide legal analysis and advice.
- Make court appearances.
- Ability to be flexible and handle sudden changes in demands.
- Self-confident yet open to guidance
- Litigation or employee benefits experience is preferred
Salary commensurate with experience.
