Location: Carlsbad, CA, Bethesda, MD (hybrid 1-2 days in the office)

The Assistant Controller will be a key member of the finance team, reporting to the Controller and working alongside the Accounting and FP&A teams to guide the company on our month end close and reporting responsibilities. This position leads and manages our GL Accounting and Accounts Payable functions and requires a detail-oriented professional with a commitment to quality, coaching, prioritizing, and meeting deadlines.

The Assistant Controller will also implement and oversee policies and procedures to identify, resolve, and document accounting issues in addition to providing direction and strategic support to make the reporting processes more efficient and accurate. This leader will drive a culture of continuous improvement in the finance function, with a focus on effectiveness, efficiency, and overall performance. The Assistant Controller will also lead, train, and develop an accounting team to ensure current and future leadership of the financial function.

Key Responsibilities:

  • The Assistant Controller will manage and coach the accounting team through the month-end close process and related flux analysis.
  • Oversees the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements, for both internal (management) and external (BOD and lenders) customer's.
  • Manage external domestic (Deloitte) and international audits, and any tax audit requirements.
  • Collaborates with Controller to analyze and recommend improvements to month end close, financial reporting and accounting policy.
  • Guides financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures.
  • Provides appropriate data and insights to FP&A/department leads during the budgeting process.
  • Ability to prioritize effectively and propose solutions to achieve the department's goals and objectives.
  • Ensure timely transactions and cash management in accounts payable.
  • Maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions, chart of accounts and NetSuite.
  • Work with Controller to draft accounting policies.
  • Partner with Finance & Accounting colleagues and other constituents around the Company as needed, including reporting and ad hoc projects.

Minimum Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in positions of increased responsibility for general accounting and financial reporting.

Other Required:

  • Demonstrated ability to lead the month-end close process, and coach an accounting team to support the achievement of goals and objectives.
  • Experience using NetSuite, our accounting ERP.
  • Past or current experience as an Accounting Manager or Assistant Controller with evidence of success in a fast-paced, growing company.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply GAAP accounting practices, including ASC 606.
  • Ability to prioritize various projects and deliver to deadlines.
  • Self-starter – Motivation to own and drive the agenda for team initiatives.
  • Ability to effectively business partner and build connections with cross function teams, and influence decisions.
  • Ability to constructively challenge, hold others accountable and maintain high standards.
  • Excellent engagement and communication skills, and presentation skills.
  • Experience in financial reporting within high growth organizations.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work within tight deadlines and to handle competing priorities effectively.
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft Office, and power user of Excel.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communications, and presentation skills.

Preferred/Desired:

  • Public accounting experience, Big 4 Public Accounting is highly desired.
  • CPA certification preferred
  • Experience in a software and/or subscription business is a plus.
  • Past success working in a private equity owned / fast paced environment with multiple projects and priorities.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $150,600-$199,100. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. The exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate’s skills, experience, geography, and qualifications as well as the candidate's location of residence. In addition to base salary, some roles may be eligible for a variable bonus based on a combination of company performance, employee performance, and/or equity depending on the position offered.
