Job Description
The Archivist Assistant position will assist archives staff with basic archival functions such as processing, preservation, reference, outreach, advocacy, scanning, typing, filing, etc. The objective is to assist in increasing availability of research material through preservation, outreach, and instruction.

- Sort, organize and arrange manuscripts and archival material, in alphabetical, chronological, or other appropriate order, as directed, in accordance with local practice and documented procedures
- Re-house material into archival containers and assist in stack maintenance.
- Input and format data according to naming conventions for finding aids and digitization; create and update records in in-house databases to support processing and conservation tracking
- Migrate photographs, audio/visual and other documents into digital formats
- Respond to inquiries and requests via phone and e-mail and serve as informational resource to employees, students, and the public.
- Assists in activities related to marketing and promoting the college archives.
Employees of Harford Community College, including instructors for online and virtual courses, must be residents of Maryland or the contiguous states of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia or the District of Columbia; non-residents are expected to relocate to meet this requirement.
Required Education
Associate degree in Library Science, History, or a closely related field required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Required Experience
One year of experience working with archival or special collections. Proficiency in a Windows or MAC-based computer environment; familiarity with CONTENT dm, ArchivesSpace, MS SharePoint and departmental shared drives.

- Excellent organizational skills
- Accuracy & attention to detail, consistency following detailed procedures
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills (spelling, grammar, editing, & proofreading)
- Ability to manage multiple priorities & tasks, to problem-solve & work independently
- Intermediate MS Office skills (word processing, spreadsheets, databases and graphics), ability to learn new applications quickly
- Familiarity with library research tools, including library catalogs, and databases such as JSTOR
- Ability to work and cooperate with co-workers and supervisors at all levels
- Ability to work with, within, and promote a diverse workforce and environment
- Ability to coordinate the activities of several ongoing projects
- Ability to understand and act on oral and written instructions in English
- Ability to maintain customer service and satisfaction as it relates to assigned unit or area of expertise
- Ability to learn and perform all essential job functions accurately
