General Description: The Head of School hires the Admissions Coordinator / Boarding Program Assistant (ACBPA) year-to-year to guide and support Houghton Academy students’ learning and living experience and ensure the school’s mission “to offer young people a college preparatory education within the framework of a Christian worldview” is pursued to the best of their ability.

Ministry Description Summary: The Houghton Academy ACBPA has a calling to serve God as a minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ; who is assured of personal worth and professional competence, both being in balance with the Scriptures; who leads a consecrated life before the Lord, co-workers, students, and parents, and is a committed follower of Jesus Christ. In addition, the ACBPA shows a high degree of professionalism and responsibility in fulfilling their ministry as an employee of Houghton Academy.

Reports to: Administrative Principal/Boarding Program Director

Evaluation: The Administrative Principal/Boarding Program Director evaluates the ACBPA’s performance regularly and annually, per Houghton Academy’s Employee Handbook and this job description.

Spiritual and Educational Requirements:

  • a clear and articulate testimony and commitment to being an active disciple of Jesus Christ
  • abides by and supports the Houghton Academy Lifestyle Statement, Declaration of Moral Integrity, and all policies articulated in the employee handbook as well as the school handbook
  • graduate from a regionally accredited or ACSI-recognized college/university

  • The ACBPA must appreciate Christian education and be passionate about helping local and international families access the unique benefits of a Houghton Academy education for their children.
  • He/She must be an energetic self-starter who enjoys assuming delegated responsibilities.
  • He/She must be attentive to detail, highly accurate, and able to build repeatable, orderly systems.
  • Thinking ahead, noticing patterns, and anticipating needs and opportunities are highly valued traits.
  • Communication technology competency is necessary (e.g., email, texting, video chat).
  • He/She must understand and work effectively with teenagers, parents, and professional contacts.
  • Cross-cultural experience is valuable, and the desire to work with people worldwide is a must.
  • Problem-solving, getting things done, and bringing closure will be daily exercises.
  • Finding and using best practices is the norm.
  • He/She, with an upbeat and positive spirit, must be able to share the vision of Houghton Academy with enthusiasm and clarity at every opportunity.

Primary Job Functions and Expectations: The ACBPA works closely with the Administrative Principal/Boarding Program Director to represent Houghton Academy to prospective students, parents, and agencies. Responsibilities include:

  • receiving inquiries and answering questions
  • getting out materials
  • scheduling interviews
  • collecting documents
  • processing acceptances and enrollment contracts
  • helping with all transitional issues
  • acting as the Official SEVIS Representative
  • planning and supporting worldwide recruiting trips
  • managing recruitment/agent/parent/alumni contacts and ongoing communication
  • coordinating transportation
  • organizing and implementing orientation
  • implementing support systems for students
  • maintaining weekly check lists
  • ensuring student recognition
  • overseeing boarder medical needs
  • recruiting RA’s for our dorms
  • hosting international parents
  • maintaining statistics and producing reports

He/She works closely with the Residence Life Support Team (Dorm Parents, Nurse, ELL Coordinator, Counselor, and other Boarding Program support personnel) to ensure all our boarding students are holistically cared for.

Pay: $28,000.00 - $48,000.00 per year
