EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
- Must be a Christian with a strong desire to bring others into a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.
- Ability to teach basic Bible lessons to children and young adults.
- High School Diploma/ GED minimum requirement.
- Must have at least two seasons camp experience or youth work equivalent.
- Prior leadership experience preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
General: Effective verbal and written communications, ability to multitask. Must be able to read, write and communicate in English. Must have ability to work and relate well with people. Must have a positive attitude toward helping and fostering children in their development.
Organization: The ability to maintain a directed schedule along with the ability to lead a large group through multiple projects in a timely manner. Must be responsible, detail oriented, and can take projects from beginning through completion.
Professional: The ability to work in a distinctively Christian environment. The ability to interact with co-workers and the public in a positive, professional manner in conformity with The Salvation Army Mission Statement. The ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances. Able to work with limited supervision, and work in a team setting with other professionals. Exercise good judgment and comfortable taking initiative with projects.
EQUIPMENT:
- Proficiency required in Microsoft products such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher. Proficiency a plus in Microsoft 365, Microsoft Teams, Media Player, and Media Shout (or similar program).

SCOPE OF POSITION
The primary function of this position is to coordinate activities and respective logistics for the Summer Day Camp Program. This includes incorporating the safety, health, happiness, discipline, cleanliness, character, and skill development of all camp staff and campers into daily activities.
The SOSDC offers programs for campers 5-14, as well as a “Staff-In-Training” program for staff 14 and 15 years of age. Must have the ability and desire to work with children, parents, volunteers, and peers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Administrative
- Provide planning, coordination, and implementation of daily activities for the Summer Day Camp Program.
- Work with Program Staff to create Daily Schedule and accompanying Staff Duty Roster to ensure proper coverage of all activities.
- Ensure accurate group headcount of registered campers at all times, reporting required statistical information to Program Director as required.
- Maintain a safe working environment: report all facility defects/problems to the Program Director or Corps Assistant.
- Enforce all rules that pertain to the camp, children’s program, and facility on a consistent basis.
- Assist in emergencies or treatment of injured participants or staff. Follow up with completion of appropriate paperwork as directed.
- Enforce all Salvation Army policies, as well as any policies required by state or local government, and guidelines indicated in grants for the program.
- Provide administrative support including filing, data entry, copies, and other assigned tasks.
- Ensures proper care of building, including cleanliness, care of equipment and reporting all needed repairs/purchases to Corps Assistant.
Behavioral
- Report any need for behavior contracts to Program Director as needed.
- Recognize spiritual need of individuals, which may require referral to the Corps Assistant or Corps Officer.
- Responsible for the development of lesson plans for the given summer theme assigned specialty camps, and children’s programs.
- Will provide support in handling handle disputes with participants, parents, staff, and campers in a professional manner with guidance of the as needed with coordination from Day Camp Counselors.
- Will communicate any camper, parent, or staff issues with the Corps Officers immediately. Follow up with appropriate documentation as directed.
- Will adhere to and implement discipline procedures, including necessary documentation and reporting, created for campers and staff, in cooperation with Corps Assistant.
- Will keep camper and staff issues confidential. Do not share issues with other campers, parents or patrons, news organizations or staff who are not involved.
- Will interface respectfully with staff, volunteers, parents, and campers of various socio-economic backgrounds.
- Enforce all rules that pertain to the camp, children’s program, and facility on a consistent basis.

Program
- Will be required to work a varying schedule, with some opening shifts each week (7am) and some closing shifts each week (7pm).
- Work with Program Staff to create Daily Staff roster, ensuring proper coverage of free time activities, electives, group activity time, etc.
- Responsible for the development of Daily Chapel programs related to the summer theme and working with Corps Assistant and Corps Officer to curate content for lesson plans for the Summer Day Camp Program.
- Responsible to create Daily Chapel Outline, assigning devotions to approved staff and volunteers, as well as other program elements such as leading songs, Scripture reinforcement, skits, decorations, props, etc.
- Responsible to create Scripture memorization activities to reinforce Chapel lessons.
- Responsible to curate content and resources for electives, group activities and other activities for campers.
- Responsible for reporting to Program Director needed supplies for programs as needed.
- Responsible for daily and weekly cleaning and inventory of supplies and program spaces.
- Responsible to coordinate daily reading groups, ensuring all campers participate.
- Responsible to work with Program Staff and volunteers to rotate participating campers into music lessons.
- Responsible to coordinate details for all enrichment field trips (zoo, museums, library, etc), working with other Program Staff to ensure proper logistics (staffing, transportation, meals, etc).
- Lead Morning Huddle with Program Staff and other staff groups as needed.
- Ensure proper PTM policies are being followed in all aspects of programming.
- Perform other assignments/duties as directed.
- Regular and punctual attendance is an essential job requirement.
- Flexibility and a cooperative spirit are crucial characteristics of the individuals who hold this important position.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to perform tasks of a repetitive nature without diminished performance.
- Must be able to carry up to 40 lbs. for short distance.
- Must be in excellent physical and mental health, capable of meeting the demands of the gymnasium and athletic field programs.
- Must be physically able to give emergency care if a situation arises.
- Must be able to walk, bend, stoop, squat, twist body, stand for short/long periods of time, kneel push, pull, have sense of touch, reach, grasp with hands and fingers, climb stairs, close vision, distance vision, smell, talk, hear, have eye-hand coordination, have manual dexterity, speak, and read English and work in noisy areas.
- May walk or stand on varied surfaces. Will require work outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
- The following equipment may be used: telephone, computer equipment, electronic recorder, fax/copy machine, microphones, audio-visual equipment.

Skills-CPR/AED
Education High School Diploma or better
Experience-Previous experience working with children, preferably in a camp or After-School Club environment.
