Job description

Supports the goals and objectives of the Office of the Controller by providing functional support to the University Community, supervises the general maintenance of accounting records and provides assistance with the month-end, quarter-end and year-end close processes. Provides direct customer service to the University community and/or other constituents in the assigned area.

  • Compiles the data necessary for the reconciliation of accounts. Prepares Excel, Word or PDF workpapers to be used with account reconciliations. The workpapers provide detailed support for the reconciliations.
  • Runs queries and reports in PantherSoft and/or subsystems for reconciliation purposes. Identifies items that are exceptions or errors to be corrected prior to month end and submits corrections necessary to proper personnel for action to be taken.
  • Maintains supporting documentation.
  • Prepares accounting transactions as needed and assists with special projects as needed.
  • Reviews and agrees accounting transactions to journals and notifies proper personnel of any discrepancies detected. Follows up with departments to resolve issues as needed.
  • Serves as a liaison between the University community, outside constituents and the Controller's Office for specialized issues as assigned.
  • Provides direct customer service to the University community and/or other constituents in the assigned area.
  • Responsible for non-resident alien (NRA) tax withholding setup on financial aid awarded to NRA students. Provides direct customer support to NRA student and employee population. Gathers student information and runs analysis for tax determination and adjustments on student accounts. Gathers employee information to determine eligibility for reduced tax rates due to tax treaty.
  • May participate in auditing and/or review activities as assigned. May participate in banking and/or University Card activities as assigned.
  • Serves as a backup within the department and assists with various functions as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent and three (3) years of accounting/bookkeeping experience.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in higher education preferred.
  • Tax or Payroll experience preferred.
