Position Title: Accounting Specialist

Job Summary
This position covers a wide variety of accounting functions including reconciling, analyzing, collecting, keying, distributing and organizing accounting data.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for tracking and reconciling projects and contracts.
- Update various audit spreadsheets.
- Review and distribute departmental expense analysis.
- Reconcile various general ledger accounts.
- Identify coding errors and reclassify in general ledger.
- Prepare monthly TDOT billing.
- Open mail and distribute accordingly.
- Back up and/or assist Purchasing Agent.
- Prepping and scanning of documents as needed.
- Unclaimed property management and reporting.
- Stuff check stubs and sort checks by department when needed.
- Responsible for the recording and disposing of City Assets
- Prepare and Remit monthly sales tax
- Reviews and verifies travel documentation and issues per diem where applicable
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Two years of post-high school higher education
- Combination of education and related experience.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
- Working knowledge of computers, scanners, faxes, phones, calculator, copy machine, printers, financial software programs and electronic data processing, MS Excel, MS Word, working knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.
- Working knowledge of governmental accounting principles and practices.
- Ability to perform arithmetic computations accurately and quickly.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Ability to establish successful working relationships.
- Ability to work under pressure and/or frequent interruptions.
- Ability to problem solve and do research.
- Ability to establish good working relationship with co-workers, staff and board members.
- Have good communication skills, problem-solving skills, and team building skills.
