Departmental Overview

The Division of Social Sciences in the College of Letters & Science is the largest of Berkeley's academic divisions, with an annual budget of approximately $135M, approximately 280 permanent faculty FTE and undergraduate enrollment which averages over 31,000 per semester. It is also among Berkeley's most heterogeneous divisions, with faculty studying every dimension of the human experience. Its academic departments include African American Studies, Anthropology, Demography, Economics, Ethnic Studies, Geography, Gender and Women's Studies, History, Linguistics, Political Science, Psychology, and Sociology. The Division of Social Sciences is also home to the Interdisciplinary Social Science Programs, the Social Science Matrix, D-Lab, and several related research units.

The Division of Social Sciences is seeking an Academic Personnel Analyst 3 to join the Assistant Dean and the Assistant Director for Academic Personnel. The AP Analyst will be an active part of a seasoned and cohesive team that supports the Dean of the Berkeley Division of Social Sciences in reviewing academic personnel requests.

Responsibilities

Works directly with Department Managers, Department Chairs, and Departmental AP Analysts on the intake of faculty AP cases. Reviews for completion, adherence to policy and guidelines, and provides feedback to the department if any revisions are needed before moving the case forward.
Maintains the faculty tracking list and reconciles list for accuracy.
Oversees and provides approval or rejection of various requests, including Multi-Location Appointment and One-Time Payment requests, Professor of the Graduate School appointments, affiliate requests, and MOP loan nominations.
Reviews academic search plans and reports for adherence to campus and divisional guidelines, provides feedback and requests changes directly with the departments. Answers questions about academic search plans from the departments.
Reviews and communicates outcomes for faculty leave requests, including sabbaticals, partial sabbaticals, and leave without salary.
Provides strategic advice and counsel to unit head (Department Chair and Department Managers) by analyzing and interpreting system-wide and organization policies, collective bargaining agreements, academic personnel procedures and practices.
Counsels Departments concerning moderate to complex work-related problems.
Identifies and customizes training needs for diverse constituencies.
Required Qualifications

Demonstrated responsiveness and commitment to providing excellent customer service.
Exceptional oral, written, and interpersonal communication and correspondence skills; ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically with diverse audiences.
Ability to analyze complex management issues, develop project scope and solutions, give professional advice to senior officials and make critical decisions regarding personnel.
Excellent critical and innovative thinking to address moderately complex issues and present nuanced analyses. Ability to multi-task and prioritize work with demanding time frames.
Demonstrated strong analytical and computer skills to create reports, conduct analysis, and develop recommendations.
Ability to use high-level discretion and maintain a high level of confidentiality.
Advanced political acumen and sensitivities to the differing perspectives and political circumstances within all levels of the campus as well as external constituencies.
Thorough knowledge of, or can quickly learn, systemwide and campus policies, procedures, and practices that govern academic personnel.
Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Preferred Qualifications

Experience working in mid to high level leadership environment within a higher education setting.
Salary & Benefits

This is a 100% full-time (40 hrs a week) exempt career position, which is paid monthly and eligible for full UC Benefits.

The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $90,000.00 - $109,000.00.
